  • Re: "Dog declared dangerous" (11/18)

    April Smith|Nov 25, 2015

Seriously?! So this dog had ONE incident involving a FERAL CAT and it is possibly going to be labeled “dangerous?” SERIOUSLY?! When did dogs EVER start liking cats they didn’t already live with? I have two cats and two dogs. They get along fine, but if another cat came into my house or yard, I know for a fact that my dogs would probably try to catch it and do harm to it. I don’t understand this situation! I can understand if this was an incident involving a person being attacked or the dog getting loose and acting aggressively with people... Full story

  • Re: "Large crowd shows up for ambulance issue"

    April Smith|Jun 11, 2014

I wanted to just say a couple things about the article in today’s paper regarding this subject. First, I was at that meeting also. It states in the article that it all started over an inspection by state DOH at the request of Mayor Wilder. I have to disagree with that. That is when Mayor Wilder had to make it public information. It also states that he requested the inspection because of a couple complaints. I don’t think those complaints had anything to do with the state of the ambulance but were rather more fuel for the complainant’s fire. Tru... Full story

  • Before you complain to the police about our dogs …

    April Smith|Nov 6, 2013

I first want to say that we are sorry for any disturbances our dogs have caused with their barking. In all honesty they are good dogs and don’t bark unless there is a reason. After reading today’s (10/30/13) edition of Coulee Cops I now know who has complained to the point that we received a letter in the mail from the police chief stating that if it wasn’t corrected we would be fined, daily, until the problem was corrected. So, I am writing this to say … 1. You have my phone number. Please call me if my dogs are keeping you up at night.... Full story

  • Gas prices still highest in the area

    April Smith|Sep 19, 2012

Last night, while I was reading my “news feed” on Facebook, I saw that one of my friends had posted that they drove to Wilbur and bought their gas there. They said that it was 27 cents cheaper than here in the Coulee. I wrote a letter a while back about how the gas prices are so high here in our area and said that I would not buy gas here until someone could explain to me why they were so much higher. Well, no one has explained this to me, and I haven’t bought gas here for several months. I spend roughly $50 a week on gas, so about $200 a month... Full story

  • Wondering why gas is so high

    April Smith|May 16, 2012

I am just wondering why the gas prices are SO high in our area? Every morning I wake up and watch the news a little before getting ready for work. The national news said today (5-11-12) that gas prices are 22 cents less per gallon now than they were a year ago. Other reports say how the cost of oil is dropping. I think on Monday it said that it had gone down 5 cents a barrel. I just wonder if there is something I am not aware of or what? I noticed that the service station in Coulee Dam raised their prices again. I guess I don’t understand h... Full story

  • School board comment was unfair, hurtful

    April Smith|Mar 14, 2012

I want to write a response to the comment by an unnamed school board member in the article about ACH track and tennis coming to our school for practices. In the bottom of that article, it was mentioned that there was concern about not having enough players for softball and bringing up eighth-graders in order to have enough players. This is something that is allowed now that we are in the 2B class and many other schools do this so that their high school programs can continue to exist and compete. I think that it was very inappropriate and rude... Full story
