  • Candidate Netzel introduces himself

    Fred Netzel|Aug 16, 2017

My Thanks to Star Publisher Scott Hunter for this opportunity to write to all of you as I begin my campaign for a seat on the Coulee Dam Town Council. From the beginning, Scott has supported and encouraged local citizens to improve our greater Grand Coulee Dam Area by volunteering and serving to the best of our individual and collective abilities. I was born here in Coulee Dam and graduated from the local high school in 1969. Five years later, I received my degree in Civil Engineering from Washington State University and began a 32-year career...

  • Fund our sidewalks

    Fred Netzel|Nov 2, 2016

Citizens of Coulee Dam, please plan on joining us the evening of Nov. 21 for a discussion concerning funding needed repairs of our town sidewalks. We will be meeting at the American Legion Hall in Electric City beginning at 6 p.m. This meeting will be open to all who are concerned about the condition of the town’s sidewalks and the safety of those who use them as we walk around our town. Council members are in the process of developing the 2017 budget, which must be finalized by Dec. 31. Council meetings are scheduled for Nov. 9, Nov. 28, Dec....

  • Fund town sidewalks

My timid knock on Clea’s door and a poorly rehearsed presentation were rewarded with a smile, a signature and a “Go get’em.” Be...

    Fred Netzel and Scott Hunter|Jun 29, 2016

County commissioners told those attending the sixth public meeting on the Okanogan County’s Juvenile Department last week that they would commit to continue housing juveniles in the county facility in Okanogan, rather than outsource the job to a far-away place. The latter possibility had brought 100 or more citizens, including two opposed superior court judges, out to a series of meetings in which commissioners explored various aspects of the question. Their announcement June 21 followed the filing of a lawsuit against them a day earlier by t...

  • Large crowd attends county meeting on juvenile hall

Fred Netzel special to The Star|May 18, 2016

Approximately 100 concerned citizens from across Okanogan County attended a special session of the Okanogan County Board of Commissioners May 10. At stake: the future of Okanogan County juvenile detainees. A quiet group waited patiently for their opportunity to tell the three county commissioners one thing: Do not move troubled youth out of Okanogan County. Included in the group were District Court judges Charles Short and Robert Grim and Superior Court judges Christopher Culp and Henry Rawson. Questions from the judges and comments from...
