  • Softball starts week strong

    The Lady Raiders started last week with a big win over the Manson Trojans April 29. The game was over in the third inning due to the mercy rule. Four Lady Raiders batted perfectly against the Trojans: Roxanne Belgarde hit four for four; Baylee Daniels, Kassidi Boutain, and Tristen Adolph all went three for three. On the mound against the Trojans, Adolph struck out six batters, giving up only one hit; and the defense helped to shut out Manson.   • Track has successful week

    Raider Track traveled to Mansfield for the makeup Iceberg Invite on April 29. The Raider boys’ team finished fourth overall and the girls took home fifth for the small meet that was a tuneup for the Raiders for the invite on May 3 in Oroville. The Draggoo Financial Invite there featured a 14-school field with many Caribou Trail League and Central Washington B schools. LR boys finished 10th overall with 12 team points. The Raider girls tied for seventh with Omak with 34 team points. The meet was delayed by a half hour due to a cloud burst. ... Full story

  • Tennis has busy week

    LR’s tennis team rebounded from a total loss early last week with a sweep and a half at the start of May. At Okanogan April 29, the Raiders were swept, both boys and girls, by the Bulldogs. Holly Jo Carriere came back in the second set of her match against Luisa Cardenas to make it close, 6-0, 7-5. Brandin Smith’s loss to Blake Chesledon 6-2, 6-4, was as close to a win as the boys came.     The Raiders extended their win streak to five games last week with wins at home and away. Lake Roosevelt took on the Hornets at Greene Field April 29, but Oroville did not roll over easily. The game was close but the Raiders pulled ahead and stayed ahead to win by four runs, 9-5. LR travelled to Bridgeport May 3 for a doubleheader against the Mustangs, who were on a three-game win streak and looking to upset the Raiders’ winning ways.   • Golf defeats Manson

    Raider golf defeated a small Manson Trojan team April 29 at Lake Chelan in an 18-hole contest. Manson had only one boy and two girls competing against LR. The boys medalist, Riley Dickinson, was from Liberty Bell competing for Manson. Brandon Desautel led the Raider boys with a 104. “Brandon Desautel turned in his best performance of the season,” Head Coach Steve Files noted. “He looked confident and in control of his game.” Mikel Friedlander was the girls’ medalist with a score of 123.     A video has been posted on Youtube of a man being arrested after fishing in a restricted area below Grand Coulee Dam and allegedly resisting arrest. The Wilbur man's arrest was the subject of a police reports brief in the April 30 Coulee Cops. Taken from a distance April 24, the video is nearly 20 minutes long and includes language many may find offensive from people in the background.     Lady Raider softball went one of three in last week's games, falling to the league-leading Liberty Bell, but prevailing in one of two games in Saturday's doubleheader against Oroville. At Liberty Bell April 22, Lake Roosevelt left six runners stranded and made too many mental errors on defense, allowing the Mt. Lions to score.     LR competed at Cashmere in the Rieke Invitational April 25, but got rained out at a Mansfield’s Iceberg Invite April 22. At Cashmere, the Raider girls finished 21st overall with 10 team points. The Raider boys did not score any team points. Chyenne Kelly-Marconi scored all the team points for the Raiders. In the 100m hurdles, Kelly -Marconi placed seventh with the season personal record time of 17.51 seconds.   • Tennis beats the rain in a tie-breaker kind of week

    Three home tennis matches against White Swan came down to tiebreaks, with LR winning all three April 22. The weather became a factor as the matches, played on both the high school courts and the Coulee Dam Community Courts in Cole Park, had to be delayed for two hours due to rain. The delay meant that the final match was not completed until 8 p.m. Daniel Campobasso’s singles match against Tre Deleon finished with a 10-8 tiebreak.     The league-leading Mountain Lions held the Raiders to one run April 22 at Liberty Bell, defeating Lake Roosevelt 6-1, but LR did not stay down, as the Billygoats were to discover. The Pateros Billygoats travelled to Greene Field Saturday for a doubleheader that was pushed ahead from 11 a.m. to 9:30 for the first game.   • Nespelem School calendar set

    The Nespelem School District Board set the school’s calendar for the next school year and changed the date of their regular monthly meetings last Wednesday. School will start next fall on Wednesday, Sept. 3 and end June 16, 2015, a Tuesday. Board meetings were changed from the fourth Wednesday of the month to the first Monday. They start at 5:30 p.m. in the staff break room. In addition to other holidays and staff training days, students will get a Winter Break set from an early release on Friday, Dec. 19 until Jan. 5.     Lake Roosevelt tennis took on the Gorrillas April 16, with the girls coming home from Davenport with a 3-0 victory. The Raider boys came up short, losing 1-3. LR’s girls swept the Gorillas in singles play. Areielle White posted an impressive win over Olivia Holden 6-0, 6-1. Holly Jo Carriere held off Jackie Soto for a 6-0, 6-4 win.     Raider baseball rebounded from their loss to Liberty Bell by winning all three games last week. At home against Bridgeport April 15, the Raiders blanked the Mustangs en route to a big league win.     Lake Roosevelt’s track and field team travelled to Davenport April 15 and to Quincy on Saturday for the first of three two-meet weeks in a row.     Lady Raider softball picked up their first two wins of the 2014 season at Manson on Saturday. Lady Raider pitching showed positive improvement. In the first game of the doubleheader, Savannah Marin struck out 10 batters, allowing only seven walks. In the second game, Kourtney Harrington stuck out three Trojans and walked only four. In fact, the second game was called after the third inning because the Lady Raiders mercy ruled the Trojans.     Coulee Medical Center's chief executive tendered his resignation with a required 90-day notice last Thursday, offering to stay on until the end of that time but stating his intention to seek "liability claims."     Raiders competed in three tennis matches during the past week. On April 10th LR travelled to Wilson Creek to take on the small Devils squad. Then on the 11th LR hosted the League leading Liberty Bell Mt. Lions. LR then turned around and hosted the Pateros Billygoats/Nannies on April 14th.     Raider Track traveled to Bridgeport April 8 to take part in the Brewster Relays. All events were scored as relays, even the throwing events. As of deadline, Raider Head Coach Lori Adkins had no comment on the meet. On athletic.net neither Coach Adkins or Brewster has uploaded any results for the meet.   • Golf splits with Riverside Christian

    Raider Golf hosted its first home match of the season on April 10 at Banks Lake Golf Course. Lake Roosevelt had only three golfers compete against Riverside Christian, so there is no team score for the event. Austin Rosenbaum was the only Raider boy at the match. He played 18 holes. Rosenbaum continues to lead the Raiders picking up his second medal of the season finishing the 18 hole match with a score of 99.     The Raiders pummeled Pateros but lost to Liberty Bell last week in two away baseball games. Lake Roosevelt came away with a 10-run victory over the Billygoats in Pateros April 8. Trey Nicholson went four for five with a grand slam and a three-run home run to drive in seven runs for LR.   • 911 service down statewide for hours, now mostly restored

    The statewide 911 outage has reportedly been mostly corrected. The problem reportedly occurred in Sheridan, Ore. but affected 911 centers across Washington. Officials will be looking into the reason no backup systems kicked in. --- The State E911 Office has reported a major nearly total 911 outage in the State of Washington occurred just after 1 a.m. on April 10.
