"Emma Marchand brought home the win on the mound," Head Coach Jaci Gross said about the freshman who struck out 10 batters, walked two, and allowed just four hits. "The win was dedicated to Terry Warnecke, LR's pitching coach, who is battling illness at Sacred Heart," Gross added. Warneke is also the grandfather of Marchand. "All of the team wrote 'TW' on their arms and in face paint in his honor," Gross said....

  • He huffed and he puffed

    Jesse Utz|May 1, 2019

Last weekend the wind blew. It did not seem like an extraordinary wind. It was powerful, for sure, but it did not seem anything like storms we have seen here in the past. The wind howled, the trees shook, the roof rattled, and dust filled every open crevice. Sometimes it all depends on location and wind direction. Sometimes it happens when we least expect it. No one expected the phone to ring Saturday morning saying the words that were said. Let’s rewind a bit first. Karrie and I got up early Sa...

    Jacob Wagner|Apr 24, 2019

People like getting packages. It's a little bit like Christmas. And someone who has been delivering peoples' packages in the area for 40 years is retiring from United Parcel Service. Merle Roberts started working for UPS on March 23, 1979, working out of what Roberts describes as "a little makeshift unloading dock" in Grand Coulee, "outside year round" before UPS had opened an office on Van Tyne Avenue 13 years later. The job was Roberts' first "real job" aside from doing some farm work in the...

  • What's wrong with universal health care?

    Jack Stevenson|Apr 24, 2019
    1

Few things are more important to people than good health. Healthy citizens are a vital foundation for a prosperous society. The need for healthcare is universal. The need starts even before we are born. Prenatal care is vital because the developing embryo-fetus is extremely sensitive to its environment. Very young children are also vulnerable because they are still developing and because their immune systems are immature. Healthcare for dental, hearing, eyesight needs, injury, disease, and the deterioration caused by advancing age is...

We celebrate the day that Christ left the tomb and claimed his seat next to his Father three days after being crucified. This week is the pivotal week in the earliest beginnings of the church, and I would like to walk you through that week briefly. The triumphant entry. Palm Sunday, Jesus rode a donkey into Jerusalem, fulfilling the...
