  • One country, two standards

    Jack Stevenson|Mar 9, 2016

Recently, national news pundits have been making a case that some of us are angry, disenchanted with the political “establishment” that governs America, and that we are willing to vote for an “outsider.” Why would anyone be disenchanted? Let me cite some reasons. Two classes of citizens are evolving in the United States, one subject to law and one not. A low- ranking soldier released a batch of classified documents without authorization to do so. He is serving 35 years in a federal prison. A four-star general gave classified documents to his...

  • Deliver us from Chicken Little

    Jack Stevenson|Dec 9, 2015

Deliver us from Chicken Little. The tale of Chicken Little is about unwarranted fear. This campaign season our country has been disgraced by politicians and pundits fear-mongering for political gain. Leaders do not promote fear. Leaders allay fear. But the end-game is serious; we must choose responsible politicians to administer our governmental functions. Our modern society is extremely complex. Finding solutions that will work is tedious and extremely difficult. There are...

  • Perspective on Ebola

    Jack Stevenson|Oct 29, 2014

Some of our national news media and some politicians have sensationalized Ebola. Is that reasonable? We cannot know the future. Ebola may eventually become the Halloween trick of the century, but right now it is not. We are frightened by things we do not understand and by things we cannot measure. Politicians attempt to gain influence by promoting fear of “isms.” Once, it was communism. More recently, it is terrorism. An “ism” is completely unmeasurable. Ebola is a new disease, and we are fearful of this unknown thing that we do not yet und...
