The Lady Raiders won two of the three basketball games they played over the holiday break. The first, at home against the Manson Trojans Dec. 18, was a 52-32 victory. Raider Basketball jumped out early and controlled the game all the way through to the end. The Bridgeport Mustangs were never in the game. The Lady Raiders won with a big margin over the Bridgeport Fillies in a Dec. 16 basketball game, improving their overall win-loss record to 3-1. The Raiders boys basketball season started last week with a two-game win streak before losing on Saturday to the Warden Cougars. Lake Roosevelt had defeated the Hornets at Oroville on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 68-65, and two days later took down the Entiat Tigers 76-58 in front of a home crowd in Coulee Dam. Lake Roosevelt wrestling competed in the first tournament of the season at Davenport Saturday, where the Raiders held their own and impressed the coaches in their first outing. LR Football finished the season with its best winning percentage since 2004 and its closest to state playoffs since 2003. Sean Garvin, Jocelyn Moore, and Kayley Duclos were all named to the Central Washington 2B North All League Volleyball Squads last week. Two Lake Roosevelt runners were named to the Central Washington B League North Cross Country All League teams for the 2015 season. The Okanogan Bulldogs, the defending state 2B champions, defeated the Raiders 56-0 in Okanogan in the Central Washington 2B Crossover game on Friday night. The game was a play-in for state playoffs with the number-two seed for District 5-6 on the line. This was the closest the Raiders have been to state playoffs since 2003. Loryn Moore, in her second trip to state cross country, finished 37th overall with the time of 21 minutes, 48.7 seconds Saturday. Moore ran a 22-second personal record for the state race and improved her placing from last year when she took 38th. Raider football finished the 2015 regular season with the best winning percentage of any Raider football team since 2004, capping it off with a win over Soap Lake Friday. Last night, the Raiders played their first playoff game since 2001 as part of a tiebreaker for the third- and fourth-place spot in the Central Washington 2B South for the state playoffs this weekend. Lady Raiders Volleyball finished the 2015 season in Ephrata, playing in the pigtail match of the District 5-6 Volleyball Tournament. LR came into the tournament as the number-five seed from the Central Washington 2B North and played number-four Waterville Shockers from the CW 2B South in a pigtail match to start the tournament. Loryn Moore will compete at the state cross country meet Saturday for the second year in a row, after qualifying at the District 5-6 race at Wentachee last weekend. “Loryn Moore ran a very aggressive race, placing second and qualifying for state,” Raider Head Coach Gary Darnold said. “She was nearly a minute faster than her time on the same course last year at the same district race.” Moore crossed the finish line at 20 minutes, 53 seconds, a career personal record. Raider Cross Country traveled to Liberty Bell Saturday for the Central Washington B North Cross Country Championship in preparation for this week's District 5-6 race at Wenatchee. Lady Raider Volleyball split the two matches contested last week. In the first at Bridgeport Oct. 13, the Lady Raiders lost to the Fillies three games to two. Then on Thursday at home, Lake Roosevelt defeated the Manson Trojans three games to one. Lake Roosevelt and White Swan played a scoreless first half before the Cougars wore down the Raiders and won 31-12 at the LR homecoming game Friday night. Raider cross country runners finished the regular season at Oroville last Saturday at the Oroville Invitational. In a field featuring good teams from across the region, the Raider boys finished seventh overall in team scoring. Three of the seven Raider boys running finished with a personal record time. The Raiders travelled a long way to Mabton to play a team that is ranked highly in the state ,and played like it.
