  • First two-meet week successful for Raiders

    Lake Roosevelt’s track and field team travelled to Davenport April 15 and to Quincy on Saturday for the first of three two-meet weeks in a row. At Davenport, the Raider boys finished sixth overall with 54 team points, and the Raider girls took seventh with 34. “The Raiders had strong team results due to many individuals’ PR’s,” said Head Coach Lori Adkins on the success at Davenport. “It was a very powerful showing for LR.” Nearly every member of the boys’ squad, and several of the girs, earned a personal record in at least one event at Davenp... Full story

  • Lady Raiders pick up two wins

    Lady Raider softball picked up their first two wins of the 2014 season at Manson on Saturday. Lady Raider pitching showed positive improvement. In the first game of the doubleheader, Savannah Marin struck out 10 batters, allowing only seven walks. In the second game, Kourtney Harrington stuck out three Trojans and walked only four. In fact, the second game was called after the third inning because the Lady Raiders mercy ruled the Trojans.   • Raider tennis has busy week

    Raiders competed in three tennis matches during the past week. On April 10th LR travelled to Wilson Creek to take on the small Devils squad. Then on the 11th LR hosted the League leading Liberty Bell Mt. Lions. LR then turned around and hosted the Pateros Billygoats/Nannies on April 14th. At Wilson Creek Daniel Campobasso remained undefeated for the season as he took down the Devils' number-one, Cotton Crane, 6-1, 6-0.   • Track competes at Brewster Relays

    Raider Track traveled to Bridgeport April 8 to take part in the Brewster Relays. All events were scored as relays, even the throwing events. As of deadline, Raider Head Coach Lori Adkins had no comment on the meet. On athletic.net neither Coach Adkins or Brewster has uploaded any results for the meet. Nathan Morrell led the Raiders in the discus with a throw of 83 feet, 10 inches. Paladine Williams threw a personal record in the discus of 82 feet. Now Williams is reaching for the 85-foot throw.   • Golf splits with Riverside Christian

    Raider Golf hosted its first home match of the season on April 10 at Banks Lake Golf Course. Lake Roosevelt had only three golfers compete against Riverside Christian, so there is no team score for the event. Austin Rosenbaum was the only Raider boy at the match. He played 18 holes. Rosenbaum continues to lead the Raiders picking up his second medal of the season finishing the 18 hole match with a score of 99.     The Raiders pummeled Pateros but lost to Liberty Bell last week in two away baseball games. Lake Roosevelt came away with a 10-run victory over the Billygoats in Pateros April 8. Trey Nicholson went four for five with a grand slam and a three-run home run to drive in seven runs for LR. Chance Garvin scored four LR runs. “We hit the ball well, but need to improve our defense,” commented Head Coach Billy Nicholson on LR allowing the Billygoats to score eight runs in the victory.   • Raiders shut down by Colton, beat Tonasket

    Raider baseball split their two non-league games over spring break, losing to the Colton Wildcats and defeating Tonasket at home on the 5th. LR remains at .500 for the season with a 4-4 overall record, 3-0 in Central Washington 2B play. In the game against Colton at Big Bend Community College Friday, Jake Straughan of Colton pitched a no-hitter and struck out 14 Raiders.     Raider Tennis travelled to White Swan on March 25 to take on the Cougars on a blustery court. LR was missing some key players and others had to step up to fill the void. LR boys won their team match by the score of 3-2. The LR girls were swept by the Cougars 0-5. In singles action, Daniel Campobasso remained undefeated, taking down Ethan Lewis 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).     Austin Rosenbaum led Raider golfers with a 49 and the first-place medal in a match March 24 at Moses Pointe Golf Club in Moses Lake. The nine-hole match against the Moses Lake Christian Lions and Manson Trojans had only individual scoring for the participants. “Austin is rounding into good competitive shape early this season,” Raider Coach Steve Files said. “He is determined to continue improving and challenging himself.” Madisyn Byam led the Raider girls with a score of 73.     Raider baseball is on a winning streak after defeating both Manson and Oroville last week. Lake Roosevelt soundly defeated the Trojans on their home field at Manson 21-9 on March 25. Then on Saturday, the Raiders went north to take two from the Oroville Hornets by the scores of 11-0 and 9-5. Devan Black picked up two wins on the mound last week, including the game-one shutout.   • Weather a factor for Raider track

    Raider track and field athletes traveled north to Colville for the Ezra Gordon Invitational Saturday, where a thunder storm caused a three-hour lightning delay.     Lady Raider softball closed out non-league play March 25 against the Tonasket Tigers at Grand Coulee. Lake Roosevelt scored more runs than in their previous four games combined, but that was not enough as the Tigers came out the victors, 22-8. Pitching remains a big problem for LR as 15 Tigers were walked and 10 hit by pitch to give Tonasket 25 free base runners. “This is a big problem we need to fix as a team,” Head Coach Jamie Lezard said.   • Baseball comes up short in early games

    Raider Baseball suffered from early season jitters last week as they lost to the Warriors of Almira/Coulee-Hartline March 18, and on March 22 in a doubleheader against Okanogan. In the first game against the Bulldogs the Raiders did mount a seventh-inning rally and looked to force the game into extra innings, but the Bulldogs got the last out for the final score of 9-5, Okanogan.     Raider Track travelled to Spokane Valley Saturday to take part in the West Valley Invitational. Lake Roosevelt went in with many young athletes who had yet to compete at the high school level.     Lake Roosevelt's tennis team travelled to Pateros and Entiat last week to open the 2014 season. At Pateros on March 18, the boys' squad won the match 3-2 by sweeping all the singles matches. Girls had a tough start, losing 0-5.     Lady Raider Softball had a tough week to open the season. Lake Roosevelt struggled on defense and on the mound, giving up many walks. Out in the field, errors allowed runs to be scored and runners to get on base. Offensively the Lady Raider bats also struggled to get runners on base and in scoring position.   • Decisions made for Central Washington 2B League for 2014-16

    With turmoil caused by reclassification and whether the Caribou Trail League would continue to exist, there are finally some definite answers.   • Raiders named to all-league squads

    Six Lake Roosevelt Raiders made the Central Washington 2B North All League basketball squads this season, including an MVP, and the boys' coach was named coach of the year. First-year Head Coach Matt Simpson was recognized as "Coach of the Year" for the CWL 2B North, having led the young Raider boys to a winning record and a Washington Interscholastic Activities Association regional tournament appearance.     The Raiders' season came to an end Saturday as the Lind-Ritzville-Sprague Broncos came away with the 67-49 victory in the the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association regional matchup at Cheney High School.     Raider wrestlers completed another successful Mat Classic by finishing fifth overall in the state tournament in Tacoma last weekend. Of the five Raiders in the B classification competition, three came home with medals.     The Lady Raiders finished the 2013-14 season Saturday with a second-place finish in the Central Washington 2B North and a third-place in the District 5-6 Tournament.
