The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association on Nov. 22 released student enrollment counts for its member schools for the upcoming 2014-16 classification cycle that groups competing schools by size. This is an important cycle as it is the first of a new four-year system in which the schools are divided by equal percentage and numbers in each classification (like 93-207 in the present 2B category). I would like to thank David Noggles on his (letter to the editor) in the December 4 issue. I first heard about the CMC issues on the November 27 issue and the “red flags” started going up when I heard the three words: “just in time” when tied to “inventory.” I would also assume that since the CMC has adopted the Virginia Mason management style, that management is using similar measuring tools for such things as “performance or productivity” (more red flags). The Raider boys are 1-1 with a win over Omak and a better start than the Raiders had in their first two games last season. Raider wrestlers started their season Dec. 5 at the Okanogan Jamboree. They wrestled against many area schools, with all nine Raiders wrestling in three matches apiece. Most came away with two wins, but James Monaghan swept the field, winning all three of his matches. The Lady Raiders opened the 2013-14 season with three nights of contests. LR suffered two injuries and two losses to old rivals Omak and Okanogan on back-to-back nights. Chyenne Kelly-Marconi, Mikel Friedlander, and Kassadi Boutain all were named to the Central Washington 2B All League Volleyball squad. Kelly-Marconi, who served 85.4 percent and delivered nine aces, also led the team with 61 kills, scoring a point 70 percent of the time she was on the court. Raider football has eight of its members named to the Central Washington 2B All League squads. Chance Garvin was named to the second team defense after a season in which he picked off 10 passes with two games of three interceptions. The Raiders ended their best football season in nine years last Friday with a win over the Bridgeport Mustangs. It was the second win over the Mustangs this season and the first league win of the season. Lake Roosevelt finishes the season with a 4-6 overall record and a 1-5 Central Washington 2B record. Raider cross country finished the 2013 season on a strong note at the state race in Pasco last Saturday. Raider Head Coach Gary Darnold liked the effort from the boys' team and the two girls competing. "Both girls and five of the boys PR'd at state, which shows that all of the runners pushed themselves to their maximum," Darnold said. The Raider boys finished 15th overall with 377 points. At the District 5-6 B cross country race at Wenatchee, the Raider boys' team placed second overall which means they are all moving on to Pasco this Saturday for the state championships. The Raiders travelled to White Swan to take on the league-leading Cougars last Friday. The Lady Raiders finished the 2013 season at home against the Liberty Bell Mountain Lions. LR lost to Liberty Bell in a straight set 3-0. Liberty Bell’s fast play took the Lady Raiders off guard and they never were in the match with the Mountain Lions. With the loss, the Lady Raiders final win-loss record was 4-12 overall and 1-8 in Central Washington 2B play. Lake Roosevelt's boys' cross country team finished second in the Central Washington B League Championship race at Liberty Bell High School last Saturday, putting themselves in good position for the district-wide meet. The Lady Raiders travelled to Manson looking for league win number two last week, but slipped from a two-game lead in a letdown that led to the Trojans winning the match in five games 3-2. Raider Head Coach Nate Piturachsatit liked how the team started out the match and praised his setters. "Mikel Friedlander and Kayley Duclos set very consistently for us, which allowed us to make some strong offensive plays," he said. LR was handed its fourth loss in a row last Friday as the Liberty Bell Mountain Lions came to Coulee Dam to lay down a 45-0 walloping on the Raiders. The Raiders are now in last place in the Central Washington 2B standings at 3-5 overall, 0-4 in League play. They are now eliminated from postseason play. Raider cross country performed like a state contender at the Oroville Invite last Saturday, with all runners posting good times. The Raiders dropped their third game in a row last Friday when they lost to the Oroville Hornets 42-14. The loss dropped Lake Roosevelt’s win-loss record to 0-3 in league and 3-4 overall. The Raiders are now tied with Bridgeport for last place in the Central Washington 2B League. The game started slow until Oroville scored its first touchdown with 4:25 left in the first quarter. The Lady Raiders dropped all three of their volleyball matches last week, with the last two decided in three games. At home Oct. 15, the Lady Raiders came out flat against Oroville and flew behind. In the second game, LR showed some spark and tied up the match at one all. Then the momentum swung back to the Hornets in the third game. Raider cross country ran its only two-race week of the season as they travelled to Omak Oct. 8 and to Quincy Saturday. At Omak, the Raider boys’ team finished fourth overall with better times from the top five. “We had a very strong team run in Omak with an improvement in time for all, while still keeping our team splits under 2 1/2 minutes,” Head Coach Gary Darnold said. The Lady Raiders travelled to Liberty Bell and Pateros last week. In both cases LR came home with a loss. At Liberty Bell Thursday, the Lady Raiders lost in four games to the Mountain Lions. After losing the first game, the Lady Raiders came back and won the second game before losing the next two. Normally the race is held in Kettle Falls at the National Park Service’s Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area, but with the government shutdown, the race had to be moved to Colville High School. Lady Raiders lose to Fillies, beat Trojans by John R. McNeil II The Lady Raiders split last week’s matches at home against the Fillies of Bridgeport and the Manson Trojans. Last Friday the Raiders held off a fourth quarter comeback by the Liberty Lancers to rack up their third win in a row. This is the longest winning streak by an LR team since 2004. LR has also won as many games this season as they did in 2011 and 2012 combined.
