  • Lady Raiders drop one, win one

    John McNeil II|Sep 12, 2012

by John R. McNeil II The Lady Raiders split last week’s matches on the road at White Swan on Tuesday and Waterville on Thursday. In a 3-1 loss at White Swan, the Lady Raiders still impressed their head coach. “The second match we came from behind to win,” Nate Pituraschatit said. “This showed a lot of character, as they didn’t quit. They stayed confident and focused and pulled through.” At Waterville, LR took the first game 25-12, but for the rest of the match the Shockers kept it close until... Full story

  • Gorillas sink Raiders in season opener

    John McNeil II|Sep 5, 2012

The Raiders were stymied by The Davenport Gorillas’ rushing attack and stiff defense stymied the Lake Roosevelt Raiders last Friday as Davenport cruised to a 44-13 home victory. It was the Raiders’ season opener as LR had pulled out of the Aug. 27 Bridgeport Jamboree because of eligibility issues. LR opened the scoring on the second play of Friday’s game as Davenport bit on the fake, allowing Justus DeWinkler to break free for a 43-yard touchdown run. The Gorillas responded quickly on the next series lining up in a modified double wing and proc... Full story

    1

In the July 11 issue of The Star, Roger Lucas’ article on Linda Evans Parlette’s advocacy for an additional $15 million to upgrade the school district’s existing fields, track and gym, the following quote was cited: “This belief is supported by the Coulee Community Act of 1957 which states, ‘It is of prime importance to the government that these communities continue to function as wholesome and attractive communities suitable as residences of personnel essential to the care and operation.’” Sen. Parlette cited this statement in letters to Re... Full story

  • Asking U.S. for rest of school projects funds is wrong

    John Overby|Jul 18, 2012

It is very discouraging to consistently read of the editorial position of this paper and the local school district’s position of calling on the federal government for funds to build the local school. The district already has $25 million from the state to build a K-12 educational wing and to demolish the grade school. The district also has $5.5 million to build a new gym complex. If my math is correct, this is covered by the amount the state has set aside. Asking for an additional $15 million from Uncle Sam for essentially athletic uses is a m... Full story

Her score put her three over the cut to move on to the second round. Head Coach Steve Files said rain Tuesday made playing out of many bunkers and thick rough very difficult. Stanczak pushed through the elements, but some bad luck on a hole and the very high level of the competition made it more difficult to advance. “Tanecia hung tough a... Full story
