    The Lady Raiders tumultuous 2012 softball season came to an end last Tuesday at Waterville with a makeup game against the Shockers. The game originally scheduled for spring break was moved due to makeup games against Brewster. The game started out close with the score being 2 all at the end of the first.   • DeSales defeats Raider baseball team at regional tournament

    The Raiders took on the Fighting Irish of DeSales in a single-elimination game at the regional tournament in Walla Walla Saturday. DeSales took advantage of the Raiders’ mistakes on the field to score six of their 11 runs to defeat the Raiders 11-2. DeSales eventually took the regional championship.     Phoenix Shephard took on Greg Sklar of Omak in a loser-out match last Saturday at Omak High School tennis courts. Shephard and Sklar competed against each other earlier in the season in a very close match that ended with a Sklar win.   • Raider baseball heads to state

    The Raider baseball team is heading to state for the first time since 2002 after defeating Kittitas and Brewster last week in districts. The first game last week on Tuesday did not turn out so well for the Raiders as Riverside Christian won the pitching duel at Eastmont. Kramer Carlson pitched a complete game, striking out two and giving up only two hits. Carlson was backed up by a stout defensive effort, but was let down by an offense that could not get anything going.   • Lady Raiders end skid at Hornets’ expense

    The Lady Raiders ended their losing streak this week, beating Oroville in a burst of offense. In the first game on Friday it took the Lady Raiders all of three innings to dispatch the Hornets. Ciara Nault hit an out-of-the park home run for the first time this season. Raelynn Dennis pitched all three innings giving up only six runs.   • Raiders finish third and fourth at sub districts

    Raider track travelled to Oroville on Thursday for the District 6 Sub District meet to determine who would move on to the Central Washington 2B Districts meet this Saturday at Eastmont High School. All members of the Raiders were allowed to compete in their events, but only the top four finishers would move on to the District meet. Kim Barry will be moving on in all four events in which she competed.   • Stanczak on to state

    Tanecia Stanczak qualified at districts Monday in Chelan to move on to the state B golf tournament held at Oakbrook Golf and Country Club in the Tacoma suburb of Lakewood May 22. Stanczak accomplished this by finishing with a score of 113, which placed her fifth in the district. Last year she was an alternate to state, and Head Coach Steve Files is proud of the way she has improved this year.     Raider tennis had a rough first weekend of district play, with many losing in close matches. Phoenix Shephard ran the gauntlet and will be moving on to this week's double elimination round of district play. He soundly defeated Josh Frey of Liberty Bell 6-0, 6-1, then played Xavier Valladares, in heat that had Shephard guzzling water before this match, Head Coach Steve Archer said.   • Baseball set for district play

    Raider baseball sits in a three-way tie atop the Central Washington 2B North going into the last week of play. The series was supposed to be against Oroville, but Oroville had players with off-the-field issues and was forced to cancel the series. Luckily, Almira-Coulee-Hartline was available to play a doubleheader last Tuesday at Greene Field. The Raiders won both games by close margins.   • Golf match cut short

    The Raider golf match at home on Thursday was cut short because of the wet weather. There were no official scores and there are no plans to reschedule — now that district play starts Monday in Chelan starting at 10 a.m. Before then, the Raider golf team travelled to Oroville yesterday to take on Waterville and Oroville in a final tune-up match.     Raider Track finished the regular season last week with meets on Tuesday in Bridgeport and Friday at Liberty Bell. At both meets the Raider girls finished second behind Entiat.     The Lady Raider softball team closed the rocky 2012 season with a home doubleheader against the Warriors last Tuesday at Grand Coulee. Almire-Coulee-Hartline fields a strong squad with an overall record of 12-1 coming into the doubleheader. With depletions to their roster, the Lady Raiders struggled in the field and were defeated by the Warriors by the scores of 30-0 and 24-2.     Raider tennis had a busy week to close the regular season with matches in Wilson Creek, Liberty Bell, and at home last Saturday. At Wilson Creek last Tuesday, the Raiders faced a Blue Devil squad that featured one boy and three girls. The Raider boys played two singles matches against Adolfo Fernandez. Phoenix Shephard won his match 8-4 and Nick Rice defeated Fernandez 8-3. For the girls, it was another frustrating set of matches as Emily Williams lost to Samantha Dowers by the close score of 8-5.     Raider baseball rebounded from a disappointing doubleheader in Liberty Bell to sweep Waterville in a convincing fashion last week. Led by the pitching of Justus DeWinkler, who gave up only one hit while striking out eight batters, the Raiders won April 24 at Greene Field 11-0. DeWinkler received offensive support from Lee Williams, Tyler Garvin and with his own bat. Williams went 2 for 3 with a double and three runs batted in. Garvin also hit a double along with a RBI.   • Ladies take top honors at Mansfield

    The Raider girls’ squad won their first meet of the season last Tuesday at Mansfield, outscoring Entiat by 16 points the final team score of 144. The Raider boys finished fifth with 35 points. Leading the girls’ squad was Kim Barry with three first-place finishes. Two came in her long-distance races: the 800-meter run (2:47.7) and the 3200 (12:50.5). The third first-place finish for Barry came in the 400 in 65.8 seconds, beating second-place Heather Segle of Entiat by 5 seconds.     The Lady Raiders came off a week where they were outscored by the Pateros Nannies 83-4 in three games. The bats were more active last week but the Liberty Bell Mountain Lions still racked up 67 runs to the ladies’ 13. In the first game on Tuesday, the Lady Raiders were plagued with errors that lead to several easy runs for the Mountain Lions. The final score was LB 28, LR 6.     Raider tennis lost to Entiat last Friday at Entiat by just one match on the boys’ side. Nick Rice continues to beat Juan Vasquez 8-3. Rice was joined by Daniel Campobasso in the victor's circle after he defeated Colter Peterson 6-1. The Raider boys dropped both of their doubles matches played by the same team of Phoenix Shephard and Hayden Rodriques, which means that the Raiders would have to forfeit one match anyway.   • Girls finish fourth at Quincy Invite

    The Raider girls finished one point behind 2A Medical Lake to place fourth at the Quincy Invitational, sponsored by Clifton Larson Allen at Quincy High School Saturday. Leading the way was Kim Barry, who, for the second week in a row, swept the long distance races.   • Raider tennis team moves forward

    Raider tennis cancelled their match on Thursday after the sudden death of schoolmate Rickey Louie-Burris. The match will be made up at a later date. “Some of our tennis kids were very close to Rickey and were unable to compete," Head Coach Steve Archer said.     Raider golf cancelled Thursday’s match out of respect for Rickey Louie-Burris, a sophomore at Lake Roosevelt High School who died in a car wreck Wednesday night. Head coach Steve Files does not believe that the match will be made up this season.     The Lady Raiders, coming off their three game sweep of the Fillies, got swept themselves by the Nannies of Pateros last week. The team was hit hard by the sudden loss of Rickey Louie-Burris, Head Coach Tristan Daniels commented.     Raider pitchers gave up only six runs in a three-game sweep of the Pateros Billygoats last week, while Raider bats inflicted 39 runs on the Billygoat defense. The wins improved Lake Roosevelt’s win-loss record to 9-1 overall, 5-1 in league play. Brady Black pitched two of his best games yet against the Billygoats.     The Lady Raiders earned their first softball victory of 2012 last Monday in Grand Coulee over the Fillies of Bridgeport 20-8. The effort was highlighted by Ciara Nault’s two inside-the-park home runs and her two diving catches at shortstop, the second for the final out of the game. Riki Wippel and Danielle Laramie teamed up on the mound for a pitching performance greatly improved from the outings against Brewster and Okanogan.     Raider golf travelled April 10 to Sage Hills Golf Club outside of Warden, where they took on the Warden Cougars, Waterville Shockers, and Columbia Basin Phoenix. Tanecia Stanczak continued to dominate the girls’ game, shooting a 44 over nine holes, a score that puts her near the top of the league for girls golfers.     Raider tennis played two matches last week, traveling to Wilson Creek on Monday and at home on Thursday against Entiat.
