    John McNeil II|Apr 18, 2012

At the Ron Vanderholm Invite last Friday in Royal City, both Lake Roosevelt squads placed at an invitational meet for the first time this season. “We are developing depth in many of our events and our team scores are beginning to show it,” Head Coach Lori Adkins said. The Raider girls finished third at the meet by scoring 89 team points. Leading the LR girls was Kim Barry, who swept the long distance races and took first in the pole vault. Barry’s championship times: 2 minutes, 32 seconds in the 800-meter run; 5:49 in the 1600 and 12:11 in th...

Katelynn Schilling placed sixth in the shot put after throwing 31 feet 11 inches, beating her personal record by more than 2 feet last week. Schilling joined Kim Barry and Jesse Adkins on the placers’ podium for the Raiders at the 84th annual Davis Invitational in Yakima. Schilling's throw not only beat out her Central Washington 2B competition from Ashley Sabin (31 feet, 0 inches) and Alyssum Reno (30-9) of Kittitas, but also vaults her to second on the performance list at athletic.net for Dist...

  • Hard week of improvement for Ladies

    John McNeil II|Apr 11, 2012

Tristen Daniels was introduced Monday as the new head coach for Lake Roosevelt softball after a hard week of improvement and growth. The week started with a home game April 2 against Brewster when the Lady Raiders lost 30-4. Because of spring break several of the girls had left with their families, leaving the interim coaches with holes to fill for Thursday's doubleheader against Brewster. The Lady Raiders continued to struggle and suffered two more hard losses at the hands of the Bears....

  • Raiders take two from Bears

    John McNeil II|Apr 11, 2012

In a make-up doubleheader at Brewster last Thursday, the Raider bats came alive to take both games from the Bears. It was a turn around from last Monday’s 8-2 loss to the same team. In the first game, Brady Black stayed on the mound for six innings, racking up three strikeouts and holding the Bears to two hits, allowing only one earned run. Justus DeWinkler finished out the game, closing it with three strikeouts, knocking down the Bears in order. “Defensively, our pitchers continued pounding the strike zone,” noted Head Coach Brandon Byers...

  • Baseball drops makeup game

    John McNeil II|Apr 4, 2012

Lake Roosevelt baseball was washed out with last week’s rain, but was back in action on Monday for the first makeup game of the series against Brewster. The Raiders will travel to Brewster on Tuesday for a double header that was cancelled on Saturday. The game on Monday at Greene Field was the first loss for the Raiders in the 2012 season. Brewster used aggressive base running to disrupt Raider pitching rhythm, the Bears were also helped by the errors LR committed on defense. Offensively the R...

  • Raider track still shifting

    John McNeil II|Apr 4, 2012

Raider track is still shifting people around to find the best competitive mix. At Cashmere last Friday, for instance, speedster Nick Gleason threw shot put and distance man Oscar Pakootas tried his hand at the 100-meter dash. Even with the mix-and-match approach, many Raiders hit personal records, with both teams placing. The boys took fifth, while the girls finished 4th. Kim Barry continued as a force for the Lady Raiders, winning the 800 in two minutes, 35 seconds, the 1600 (5:54), and the...

    John McNeil II|Apr 4, 2012

Tanecia Stanczak and Drew Desautel led the way for the Raiders at Desert Canyon Golf Club in last Wednesday’s match against Waterville, Columbia Basin Secondary, Moses Lake Christian, and Omak. Stanczak, for the second week, outclassed her opponets to breeze to a 51-stroke score on nine holes. Head Coach Steve Files thought Stanczak’s performance was “stellar” on the greens, which helped to distance her from the rest of the competition. Desautel lead the Raider boys with a score of 55 on the...

  • Raiders rackets rained out

    John McNeil II|Apr 4, 2012

With the wet weather, the Raider tennis squad was only able to play one of three matches scheduled for last week, and that match was a makeup for a previous weather cancellation. At Omak March 26, the Pioneers roughed up the Raiders on the whole. The only win for the Raiders came in boys’ singles action as Hayden Rodrigues defeated Cody Smith in convincing form, 8-1. Phoenix Shephard came back from a deficit to force a tie breaker, but lost to Greg Sklar 9-8, (7-0). Kayne Oberg dropped his m...

  • Raider softball loses to Brewster, rained out

    John McNeil II|Apr 4, 2012

The Lady Raiders series against Brewster last week had the misfortune to be rained out not only at home on Tuesday, but also on Saturday at Brewster for the doubleheader. For Lady Raider softball, that means this week will feature home games on Monday and Tuesday against Brewster and Waterville respectively, but also a second doubleheader on either Thursday or Friday at Brewster to go along with the regularly scheduled one on Saturday at Waterville. When the Lady Raiders returned to action on Mo...

  • Raiders take down Okanogan

    John McNeil II|Mar 28, 2012

Raider baseball swept Okanogan at Greene Field on Saturday by scores of 9 to 6 in both games of the doubleheader. Head Coach Brandon Byers likes the performance of his squad this early in the season, "These were the types of games that we really wanted our boys to be in before we start league play,” Head Coach Brandon Byers said. “We had several mental and physical errors in the middle part of both games that were uncharacteristic of the team, but the guys did a great job of bouncing back immedi...

Shepard dispatched Xavier Valladares, 6-3 and 6-0. Rodrigues trounced Armondo Cervantes of White Swan 6-1, 6-3. John McNeil II|Mar 28, 2012

Junior Tanecia Stanczak and Freshmen Austin Rosenbaum both medalled at Lake Chelan Golf Course last Thursday in the opening match of the season for the Raiders. The Raider boys’ team competed against Manson, Waterville, and Entiat, while Stanczak competed against the other girls as an individual as there were not enough girls to form a squad for any of the schools present. Stanczak shot a 53 on the nine-hole course to take home the gold medal. Head Coach Steve Files was pleased with her p...

  • Softball opens with Okanogan

    John McNeil II|Mar 28, 2012

After the confusion of having their head coach quit and the original opener with Cashmere postponed, the Lady Raiders opened at home under interim Head Coach Kevin Rosenbaum against the always-tough Okanogan Bulldogs, losing 30-4 Thursday at home. Junior Danielle Laramie took to the mound for what Coach Rosenbaum believes was her first-ever game pitching. In the first inning, the Bulldogs sensed that and ran out ahead, taking advantage of every mistake the Lady Raiders made. It looked to turn...

    John McNeil II|Mar 21, 2012

LR out-hit Tonasket 23-1 en route to a doubleheader victory over the visiting Tigers last Saturday at Greene Field. In the first game, every Raider who came to bat not only got on base, but also scored a run. "At the plate our hitters did a good job of being patient and not trying to do too much with the pitches,” Raider Head Coach Brandon Byers said of the slugfest. “They showed good bat control and put the ball in play." Kramer Carlson hit a double and a home run in the first game to con...

  • Tennis has soggy opening

    John McNeil II|Mar 21, 2012

The rain caused an early end to the opening matches of the season against Tonasket at the LR tennis courts last Saturday, ending the one good match the Raiders had for the day. “Our one bright spot was Brandin Smith, who did not get to finish his match because of rain,” Head Coach Steve Archer commented. “Hopefully we will fare better against the other schools in our league.” Smith won the first set in his singles match against Colton Leep 6-3. When the second match ended due to the rain, t...

    John McNeil II|Mar 13, 2012

With the recent closure of the Banks Lake golf club, many members of the community questioned whether Lake Roosevelt High School would have a golf team this spring. Luckily, Head Coach Steve Files was able to work a deal for the Raider golf team will still have access to the golf course for this season. “Of course, we are facing some uncertainty with regards to the status of Banks Lake Golf Course, but are pressing forward with our preparations for a great season of Raider Golf,” Files sai...

  • Raider Track returns with experience, leadership

    John McNeil II|Mar 13, 2012

Fourteen returners, including three participants of the 2011 state track-and-field tournament, bring optimism to Raider Track for the 2012 season. Once again there will be no home meets for the Raider track team. This slight is easily forgotten when compared to the exposure to college recruiters that LR athletes will receive in Spokane-, Yakima- and Wenatchee-area meets. Head Coach Lori Adkins likes what she sees thus far. “The Raiders are giving the extra degree of effort to improve their t...

Seniors Jada Desautel, Ciara Nault, and Raelynne Dennis along with junior Danielle Laramie return to the squad this year. A noteworthy absense from the returners is Senior Briana Monaghan, who was a 2011 First Team All Central Washington North selection. Head Coach Flint Bjorson expects these four to be the leaders for the young squad. T...

    John McNeil II|Mar 7, 2012

In the opening game against Northwest Christian Thursday night, Keith Rosenbaum opened the scoring with a steal for a layin early and went on to score eight of the 12 Raider points in the first quarter. The Crusaders answered with 18 points and effectively shut down Ty Egbert as an offensive threat with a double team....

  • The new North Central B League

    John McNeil II|Mar 7, 2012

The 2B members of the new NCL include Oroville, Liberty Bell, Bridgeport, Manson, and Lake Roosevelt. The 1B members will be Pateros, Entiat, Waterville, Mansfield, and Cascade Christian of Wenatchee. This combination is a common occurrence in the Puget Sound, where the few B and 1A schools have to get together to avoid four- or five-hour league...
