OK mates: It’s time to bid adios to the Airport Addition. During the past 34 years our three kids have graduated from college and are well on their way to seeking their fortunes, or so they tell us. Linda and I thought we were hove to as well as two bugs in a rug. We have made many life-long friends over the decades. Trying to name them individually is difficult but we remember many: Employees of the USBR, NPS, the clergy and parishioners of St. Henry’s, medical professionals and their sta...
We have lived in Coulee Dam since June of 1980 and have used the Spring Canyon picnic area many times through these years. On the afternoon of 6/28 we made one of this year’s first visits to the park for a few hours of well earned R&R. All that was apparent was grass and goose fecal matter, fresh and fosselized. In all our years we have never seen such an accumulation of goose poop. So said other locals of this mess. This mess didn’t seem much of a concern to the ranger in the office. “I walk...

First off, I really appreciate the emails, phone calls and chit-chat from those of you in the street and on the river bank about the old Musings columns during the past decades. Believe you me, it makes me realize how some of these past columns have hit close to your home. First, let’s discuss the cat. 4-Socks continues to remain with us. But as in all family animals, she is different and will remain an inside cat. Let her out the back door last week. She made a few turns after leaving the p...
“Morgan’s Musings,” originally known as “Coulee Country Outdoor Report,” first came to being on July 9, 1987. The final Musings will be with this issue, capping some 24 years, seven months of fiction and fact from the outdoor scene. After spending many an hour combining outdoor verbiage, it has made as much sense in its completion as those before it. Even though every published word you read was proof-read by my lovely wife Linda. Katherine Rosman, a syndicated journalist for the Sunday Ed...
OK, be honest. When was the last time you misplaced your regular set of vehicle/house keys and had to revert to the used ones that were stowed in your hip pocket or bottom of your purse? I’ll be honest, I used mine last week. Here’s another: How often have you said to yourself, “How long will that new store/restaurant stay in business?” When we see that new store-front closing shop, we mutter to ourselves, “Another one bites the dust.” Although Linda and I no longer consider ourselves n...
4 is over, 2012 is falling in step close behind, and I approach the New Year with much trepidation. We did well in 2011. Ol’ In-n-Out went out the door just one time too many and was replaced in short order by “Lone Tom,” who realized suddenly he was not what we expected: an inside cat. A few whiffs of fresh air shortly after arrival gave him a new lease on life and he disappeared quicker than you could say, “Sha-Zam.” A female feline arrived shortly thereafter from Strahl Canyon. If “Four...
