  • Senior Profile: Aiyanna Picard

    Jesse Utz|Jan 11, 2017

As we start the New Year I wanted to highlight some of the seniors in this year’s class at Lake Roosevelt who are succeeding and striving to make a difference in their own lives. I choose Aiyanna Picard because, well, she is “The Legend,” and we kind of have a history with each other. A long time ago, when I worked with Colville Tribal Emergency Services, we got a call about a lost girl. To make a long story short, this girl was lost for a few days in the woods, and hundreds were called in to look for her. She was found and was perfectly fine,... Full story

  • December brings cold snap and snow

    Bob Valen|Jan 11, 2017

Let’s start out with a quick look back at 2016 weather, shall we? What really stands out for me in 2016 was the amount of precipitation we received. Our area averages 10.55 inches annually. Well, that changed and will likely change the overall average as well. We had three months with really good precipitation — January: 2.15 inches as measured by my personal weather station (1.90 inches as measured by the official weather station at the Bureau of Reclamation), March: 2.70 inches (1.82) and October: 3.60 inches (3.98). Our total pre... Full story

  • Raiders wrestle in Okanogan and Warden

    Jacob Wagner|Jan 11, 2017

Raiders wrestled in the Brewster Mix & Match last Tuesday, then in a Warden tournament on Saturday. The Brewster Mix & Match is without brackets and team points, but is rather an opportunity for wrestlers to gain experience. Three Raiders participated in the Brewster event, each wrestling two opponents, and each winning both of their matches. Raider Kaleb Horn’s first opponent was Okanogan’s Will Clark, whom Horn defeated with two takedowns, five near falls, and an escape, for a “technical fall” with a final score of 18-1. Horn’s next opponent... Full story

    Jacob Wagner|Jan 11, 2017

The Lady Raiders basketball team is 6-2 in the league after decimating Bridgeport on the road last Tuesday, 63-36, then defeating Waterville at home on Saturday, 42-31. The girls are ranked 17th in the state for 2B schools, according to the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association. The ranking does not yet factor in two of the ladies' wins. Lake Roosevelt tried out some new techniques against the Bridgeport Fillies, and it paid off with a 27-point win. "It was one of those games where... Full story

    Jacob Wagner|Jan 11, 2017

The Raider basketball team has a 1-7 win-loss record in the league after losing by four points, 46-42, in Bridgeport last Tuesday, then by five points, 43-38, against Waterville on Saturday at home. The Raiders and the Bridgeport Mustangs traded leads through the game, but in the end the the Mustangs took a four-point victory. "We're still trying to figure out how to win at the end of the game," Raider Head Coach Levi Seekins said. "We had every opportunity to do so, but just didn't hit the... Full story
