“The kids were better than excellent,” Lake Roosevelt High School counselor Sue Hayes said of 87 students who got a day-long trip to Spokane as part of “Rewards Day.” Students at Lake Roosevelt are rewarded in late winter for a combination of favorable experiences which include attendance, grades and personal discipline. “A total of 116 students from freshman to seniors qualified for the trip, but 29 chose to stay home and work on academic projects,” Hayes stated. Two buses took the students to roller skating, lunch of pizzas, shopping at...

Dominant all season, Raider wrestler Orrin Gross seized the state championship at 138 pounds at the Mat Classic in Tacoma last weekend to lead the team to sixth place in the state "B" championship tournament. In his first match, Gross pinned Oscar Roa of Brewster in the third round to move on to a semifinal match against Jon Walling of Kittitas. Walling continued to be a tough opponent for Gross, but Gross put the moves on Walling and defeated him 10-5. Gross took on Daniel Stauffer of...

The Lady Raiders saw their season end last Friday at Eastmont High School in an overtime loss to Riverside Christian, 65-58. The Lady Raiders finished with a 15-8 overall win-loss record with several impressive wins and with a great deal of promise for the future. The team’s week started on a sour note with a loss to Entiat 58-49, that placed LR against the eight ball; any let-down or cold shooting streak could end the season right then and there. With that in mind, the girls faced Oroville o...

When fresher weather arrived, the necessity to cart everything outside and beat it clean with a broom was essential after months of living together in a small space without much (if any) bathing and little (if any) outdoor activity except the daily trip to the barn. I don’t know how many people still partake of the full meaning of spring cle...
