Grand Coulee Police 2/21 - Police tasered a 55-year-old Bremerton man who allegedly had taken items from Safeway. He had allegedly tried to conceal his real identity because, he said, the Department of Corrections had a warrant out for him. Charges include assaulting a police officer in the third degree, resisting arrest, obstructing a law enforcement officer, third-degree theft and making false statements to an officer. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office says schools in Coulee City are closed this morning “as a precaution.” GCSO adds only that there have been no injuries and that law enforcement officers are at the school. Reports coming from a person near the school say those officers look “pretty calm” and that the street has not been cordoned off. GRANT COUNTY, Wash. (02MAR2016) – The lockdown of schools across Grant County was prompted this morning after a 39-year-old Flagstaff, Arizona man made threats to shoot up Coulee City schools. Benjamin VanTassell is in the Grant County Jail facing multiple charges. VanTassell called Spokane television station KHQ around 7:00 this morning expressing the threats.
