  • Ideas could steer junction traffic differently

    Roger S Lucas|Apr 1, 2015

A lot of footwork, phone calls and letter writing is paying off for Ray Wells, who obtained some 1,100 names in a petition encouraging the Department of Transportation to take a look at traffic control at the Four Corners intersection highways 174 and 155. “I’ll be there,” Wells said last week, when he learned that the DOT would present possible solutions at the beginning of the Grand Coulee City Council meeting April 7. Wells said he didn’t know of the upcoming meeting until he saw it in last week’s newspaper. Wells was injured and spent a wee...

Such a document allows the NPS “to integrate and coordinate all kinds and levels of planning from a single, shared understanding of what is most important about the park,” a press release...

  • Controversial zoning change begins public comment period

    Roger S Lucas|Apr 1, 2015

The clock is ticking for the public comment period on changes to Electric City’s zoning changes. The city has submitted its zoning changes to the state and this triggers a 60-day public comment period when the citizens can let their wishes known. The biggest issue in the change is the size of accessory buildings. The changes were submitted by the planning commission and when the city council failed to act on the entire package, three planning commission members resigned. The planning commission had proposed that the maximum size of accessory b...

  • Continued pot prohibition aids criminals

    Apr 1, 2015

I find it very disappointing that we are beginning the third year in which adults over 21 years of age living in Washington state can legally possess and use cannabis (marijuana) products, yet we have NO legal cannabis businesses in the Grand Coulee Dam Area (Electric City, Grand Coulee, Coulee Dam, et cetera) due to local moratoriums. Don’t get me wrong, as there are PLENTY of cannabis products available here in our cities and towns ... just NONE from legitimate businesses. To our local city council members: I am sure that the criminal e...

They have shifted tactics and graduated from universities with MS and PHD degrees in environmental sciences and law degrees. They are now state of Washington and f...

An important part of serving in Congress is responding to questions from constituents on a range of topics, from Obamacare to national security and religious persecution abroad. I always look forward to hearing from constituents who contact my office by telephone, email, or letters. These questions often touch on important issues facing our country, and some deserve a wider audience, which is why I would like to share a couple with you. One retired constituent from Central Washington emailed my office with this question: How do you plan on...

  • Mud puddles

    Jesse Utz|Apr 1, 2015

The past few weeks have been a roller coaster ride for my family, and after talking to a few other people, they too have been going through some trials and tribulations. Then after the big wind storm that swept through the area, followed by an inspirational coffee lid, I started to think about some things. Picture this. We are traveling along our life paths. Some paths could be pristine with not even the slightest crack in the surface. Some could be a wooden planked path with aged wood and even some warped edges from time to time. But most of u...
