    Two veteran school employees, Charlene Tracy and George Davis, are retiring or taking new positions. The school board March 26 accepted Tracy's retirement request. She has been with the district for 28 years, and served in three schools. She said Tuesday that she planned to travel with her husband who retired last year. Tracy started with the district at Center School, when it was open the first time, transferred to Wright Elementary and for the past several years has been at the Grand Coulee Dam Middle School as secretary and co-athletic...

    Kindergarten registration for the 2012-13 school year is now open for all children entering kindergarten next year. Parents may stop by the school office for a registration packet. A copy of the child’s OFFICIAL birth certificate and immunization record are needed in order for the child to attend kindergarten. The child must be 5 by August 31, 2012.     Katelynn Schilling placed sixth in the shot put after throwing 31 feet 11 inches, beating her personal record by more than 2 feet last week.     Tristen Daniels was introduced Monday as the new head coach for Lake Roosevelt softball after a hard week of improvement and growth. The week started with a home game April 2 against Brewster when the Lady Raiders lost 30-4. Because of spring break several of the girls had left with their families, leaving the interim coaches with holes to fill for Thursday's doubleheader against Brewster.     In a make-up doubleheader at Brewster last Thursday, the Raider bats came alive to take both games from the Bears. It was a turn around from last Monday’s 8-2 loss to the same team. In the first game, Brady Black stayed on the mound for six innings, racking up three strikeouts and holding the Bears to two hits, allowing only one earned run.     April should usher in a respectable climb of warming temperatures. There is a nine-degree difference in mean temperatures from March (41.1°F) into April (50.1°F). Mean precipitation is the same at 0.82 inches. The record differences are separated by nearly a half inch (March’s 2.64 inches vs. April’s 2.19 inches ). We could see some white stuff in April.     The Colville Tribes and the State of Washington have won a significant victory in the pre-trial stage of their suit against mining giant Teck Cominco, Colville Business Council Chairman Michael O.
