    Nancy Fahr Starr passed away Thursday, Apr. 5, 2012, surrounded by family after a courageous battle with diabetes. She was born September 6, 1933, in Chicago to Ernest and Eleanor Fahr and with her sister, Eleanor, the family moved to Grand Coulee in 1940 when their dad went to work as electrician on the Dam. She attended school in Grand Coulee. Nancy married Tom Irvin and had three kids: Tom, Ronnie and Carol and later divorced.   • Constellation Connections offered Monday

    SHARP Kids will team up with National Park Service Ranger Janice Elvidge Monday night, when she offers “Constellation Connections,” a classroom program that teaches students their way around the night sky. The program meets state learning requirements for earth and space science for students in fourth through eighth grades. Students will explore the galaxy through visuals and hands-on activities; they’ll build a star chart and learn how to use it.   • Kindergarten screening days soon

    Kindergarten registration for the 2012-13 school year is now open for all children entering kindergarten next year. Screening Days - Thursday and Friday, April 19 and 20. All registered students will be screened during this time, which will include vision, hearing and communication. Please call the office to schedule a time slot for your child, as this will be the only days the teachers will be available for screening. There will be no kindergarten classes on these days....

    Raider pitchers gave up only six runs in a three-game sweep of the Pateros Billygoats last week, while Raider bats inflicted 39 runs on the Billygoat defense. The wins improved Lake Roosevelt’s win-loss record to 9-1 overall, 5-1 in league play. Brady Black pitched two of his best games yet against the Billygoats.     The Lady Raiders earned their first softball victory of 2012 last Monday in Grand Coulee over the Fillies of Bridgeport 20-8. The effort was highlighted by Ciara Nault’s two inside-the-park home runs and her two diving catches at shortstop, the second for the final out of the game. Riki Wippel and Danielle Laramie teamed up on the mound for a pitching performance greatly improved from the outings against Brewster and Okanogan.     Raider golf travelled April 10 to Sage Hills Golf Club outside of Warden, where they took on the Warden Cougars, Waterville Shockers, and Columbia Basin Phoenix. Tanecia Stanczak continued to dominate the girls’ game, shooting a 44 over nine holes, a score that puts her near the top of the league for girls golfers.     Raider tennis played two matches last week, traveling to Wilson Creek on Monday and at home on Thursday against Entiat. At Wilson Creek, both the boys and girls posted team victories with the LR boys winning four matches and the girls three. Phoenix Shephard dispatched Adolfo Fernadez eaily in two matches 6-1, 6-1. Hayden Rodrigues battled hard after losing the first match, winning the second 7-6, but dropping the overtime match 7-4 to Brandon Berneski. Nick Rice and the doubles teams won by forfeit.     At the Ron Vanderholm Invite last Friday in Royal City, both Lake Roosevelt squads placed at an invitational meet for the first time this season. “We are developing depth in many of our events and our team scores are beginning to show it,” Head Coach Lori Adkins said. The Raider girls finished third at the meet by scoring 89 team points. Leading the LR girls was Kim Barry, who swept the long distance races and took first in the pole vault.     Grand Coulee Police 4/10 - A Lakeview resident in Electric City reported that someone had their septic cover off and was pumping sewage out. Police found a resident who said he was waiting for a plumber to come to the site. - Center Elementary School reported that two injectable pens were missing from the nurse’s room. The pens contained insulin valued at nearly $600. Officials advised the emergency room at Coulee Medical Center of the theft. - The owner of an apartment complex in Electric City reported that someone was sleeping in the laundry... Full story
