    Man dies in ATV accident A 64-year-old Mansfield man died Monday when the four-wheel all-terrain vehicle he was driving overturned on top of him 300 yards from his home about 1 p.m. Rhett J. Wall suffered internal injuries when the 2009 Honda TRX500 lost traction as he was headed up a slope. It rolled backwards, landing on top of him as it rolled over before it ended up another 44 yards away, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reported.     Tribal members rallied Friday to deliver a petition to the Colville Business Council, asking it to reconsider an earlier decision on how to split a recent court settlement with the federal government.     The Coulee Cruizers Car Club will put on for Father’s Day weekend its 28th annual Best Rod Run By a Dam Site rally, June 15-16.   • Park district prepares for bigger budget

    Park district commissioners Monday accepted a 10-year management agreement with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and prepared to pass a supplemental budget that would allow the district to spend more than $100,000 this year, almost all of it from grants. “That’s amazing for an organization that has … no source of income,” commented Chairman Phil Hansen.     Wright Elementary School, scheduled for demolition sometime this summer, is the warehouse for hundreds of items that go on the garage sale block this Thursday and Friday. You can pick up a urinal for about $15. Two portable class buildings (24 by 36 feet) can be purchased cheaply, but be prepared to move them.   • School district turns back grant money

    The Grand Coulee Dam School District is withdrawing from a $580,000 energy grant awarded by the state. The Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction announced the grant early in April, and only a few days later the district learned that much of its new facility plan had been funded by the state. The district had been working on the grant for nearly a year and was prepared to re-do lighting and controls in its respective school buildings.     Well, I think that the Burdin Boulevard Saga needs to quit. I buy a paper every week and it's been all about Burdin Boulevard. Personally, I think people need to give it a rest.     This past May brought us our third consecutive year with a below mean temperature for our region of Washington state. The mean for May is 58.5°F. Here is what I’ve recorded at the home weather station over that past four years. 59.4°F (2009), 54.3°F (2010), 54.5°F (2011) and 57.3°F (2012). We almost cracked the 90-degree mark on May 15th with an 89.3°F. That was only one of three days at 80 degrees or above. Precipitation has been all over the chart. The laws of supply and demand, plus a fire north of Los Angeles led to the rare occasion last weekend when water flowed over the front of Grand Coulee Dam.
