Deon Pakootas, Keller, is proud to announce the birth of son Blane Alexander Palmer on Monday, June 10, 2013, at Coulee Medical Center in Grand Coulee. He weighed 6 lbs., 15 oz., and was 20 inches in length at birth. Siblings include Chris12, Darin 9, Hunter 9 and Tani 8. Maternal grandparents are Floyd Pakootas and the late Darlene Pakootas. A man with local ties was killed in a traffic accident June 11 in the Tri-Cities area. Steve Covert, husband of Cindy Covert and son-in-law to Kern and Margi Overman, of Grand Coulee, died in the collision with another car but reportedly turned his car to save his son in the passenger seat. His funeral took place in Pasco Friday. Margi Overman said Cindy will be in town this weekend to attend another friend’s memorial.... Full story

Grand Coulee Police 6/9 - A man who told the officer that he didn’t want to go to jail on a warrant, did just that. The Omak man was stopped because of a faulty brake light and the officer found that he was driving with a suspended license, didn’t have insurance, and that he lied to the officer. A Lincoln County warrant for his arrest let the officer take him to Davenport. 6/10 - A Spokane woman wanted on a Grant County warrant was seen walking near the Four Corners. The school board approved the hire of a new English teacher at Lake Roosevelt High School at its special meeting last Wednesday night. Hired was Brian Daniels, of Fort Worth, Texas. Daniels will teach English/language arts at LRHS. He is a graduate of Butler University with graduate work at the University of Texas in Arlington.... Full story

Mykala Seresun, a state champion runner, will join Central Arizona University this fall after receiving a full-ride cross-country and track and field scholarship to the two-year program. She is the daughter of Danny and Christi Seresun, Sedona, Ariz. Detective Frankie D. here - again - after a couple of weeks off. You can bet your booties that yard sale shoppers in the Coulee are in for a heck of a ride this summer if the half-dozen sales held in Electric, Grand and Elmer Cities are a true indicator. Saturday’s rummage sale at the Grand Coulee’s Zion Lutheran Church had all of the elements of a Priority One sale: a great location in a grassy, shady area with stuff set out on tables and on tarps and lots of volunteers to help with pricing, sacking and even loading. The deals were great too...
