  • Heroes is the focus for summer reading

    This summer, at the Grand Coulee Public Library, the summer readign program will focus on the many types of heroes there are. The heroes of all ages who walk through the doors of the library each day; the heroes who have made their marks on history; the heroes who keep our communities safe, clean and productive; and high-profile superheroes.   • Students recognized as reading all stars

    Students at Lake Roosevelt Elementary School received awards in a special ceremony last Wednesday in the school's Accelerated Reading Program. Making the awards was Aaron Derr, elementary library reading specialist. The following students earned the top reader award and a $25 Amazon gift card for their grade level.   • Lake Roosevelt team completes spring football

    Thirty athletes turned out for the Lake Roosevelt High School spring football practices, according to head Coach Geary Oliver. The team had eight practices and focused on the team's primary offensive structure. Team members also worked on individual techniques.     Ida and Bruce Gamboa of Electric City are proud to announce the graduation of their daughter Jewel Noelle Gamboa from the University of Washington, class of 2015. Jewel graduated with a degree in Political Science.   • Locals make WSU President's Honor Roll

    Several local students were included in Washington State University’s President’s Honor roll for spring 2015. As WSU lists them, they are, from Coulee Dam, Taima Nichole Anne Carden and Alissa Brianne Mansker. From Coulee City, Allison J. Fox, Julianna Mae Hughes and Madeline Corinne Isaak. The listing means they achieved a overall grade point of 3.75 while enrolled in at least nine graded hours in a single semester, or had a GPA of 3.5 based on at least 15 cumulative hours of graded work.... Full story

  • Country/rock band to play at festival

    Luke and Isaac Olson are bringing their country rock sound to Coulee Dam, July 4, where they will perform as the Olson Bros. Band, in the park below the Visitor Center. The two hail from Olympia and seem destined for fame with their musical and songwriting skills. The duo won the The Texaco Country Showdown national songwriting contest with a cash prize of $5,000, and soon plan to return to Nashville for a recording session.     Grand Coulee Police 6/15 - USBR Plant Protection reported a vehicle parked at Station 5 after hours. An officer learned it was a Bureau of Reclamation employee from out of town locating where a meeting was to be held the next day. - Police found the door of the wire storage area unsecured and fixed the problem at the 230 kv switchyard. 6/16 - A man on Young Street reported that a neighbor had backed into his vehicle, causing damage.     Though our mean temperature was a bit higher for May, the month was on the normal side. We recorded a high for the month of 89.5°F and a low of 36.5°F (all-time high was 100°F in 1986 and the all-time low was 21°F in 2002). The mean was higher than the all-time mean for May (58.4°F) at 62.5°F or 4.1°F higher. May was above normal, slightly, for precipitation. We recorded 1.3 inches for the month while the mean is 1.1 inches. A little “extra” rain is always welcomed. We are a ways into June already, and a look at what is being “predicted... Full story

    With the forecast of temperatures over 100 degrees later this week and this coming weekend, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office is reminding people to be careful and follow this information from the Centers for Disease Control to help prevent heat related illness. · Stop all activity and get to a cool environment if you feel faint or weak. · Wear loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing. · Limit outdoor activity, especially midday when the sun is hottest. · Never leave infants or children in a parked car.   • Grant County commissioners impose temporary burn ban

    The Grant County Board of Commissioners today imposed a temporary ban on outdoor burning effective Wednesday June 24, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. The ban prohibits all outdoor burning until further notice and will be lifted once conditions improve. If citizens are caught burning, they could face fines and other consequences.
