  • Library summer reading program has begun

    The theme for this summer's NCRL's Grand Coulee branch summer reading program is "Fizz, Boom, Read!" There are a lot of activities and crafts in addition to special presentations that are free to the public. Also don't forget the reading challenge available for all ages.   • Tree booklet

    The Arbor Day Foundation is offering a handy tree-care booklet designed to help people plant and care for trees. Anyone can receive Conservation Trees, a user-friendly booklet featuring illustrations, colorful photos and easily-understood descriptions, by making a $3 donation to the Foundation this month. The booklet provides details about the right way to plant and prune trees.     Grand Coulee 6/16 - A person on Continental Heights reported that a fire alarm that would sound when the door was opened had been broken off by an unknown party. - An Electric City woman reported that someone had slashed one of her tires and keyed the paint on her vehicle. 6/17 - A Coulee Dam woman reported that her car had been struck while parked at North Cascades Bank.   • Tribes removing walleye and bass from Sanpoil River

    A crew of six tribal fisheries staffers are working on the Sanpoil River from mid-May to July to catch as many walleye and smallmouth bass as they can in hoping to improve redband rainbow trout and kokanee runs. The work is part of a "Chief Joseph Kokanee Enhancement Project" that began in the spring of 2011 and is expected to continue through 2017, a press release from the Colville Tribes' Fish and Wildlife Department states.
