    The annual Summer Reading Program has started at the Grand Coulee Library. The theme this summer for children and teens, chosen by a National Collaborative Summer Library Program committee, is “Dig into Reading”. Come in to enroll in the program and begin keeping track of the minutes read or those that have been read to you for our reading challenge.     Shelby George and Mylan Williams Sr. of Coulee Dam are proud to announce the birth of their daughter Whisper Judith Rose Williams born Monday, June 17, 2013, at Coulee Medical Center in Grand Coulee. She weighed 7 lbs., 11 oz., and was 19.5 inches in length at birth. Siblings include Glad Eyes 9, Julia 17, C-Hawk 8, Red Elk 6 and Mylan Jr. 3.   • District board approves hires

    The Grand Coulee Dam School District board approved a number of hires at its Monday night meeting. Anne Cain, from Monitor, Wash., was hired as a third kindergarten teacher. Karmen Cecil, who taught fifth grade last year in the middle school, was hired as a developmental preschool teacher. Andrea Sperberg, from Spanaway, was hired as counselor at Lake Roosevelt High School. Victor Camarena was also hired under a supplemental contract to coach wrestling at the Grand Coulee Dam Middle School. In other business, the board accepted a $5,678 grant... Full story

  • Alumni scholarships awarded to students

    The Grand Coulee High School Alumni Association has awarded their 2013 scholarships in the amount of $500 each to Andrew McClure and Hillary Carriere, Lake Roosevelt High School graduating seniors. Andrew wants to become an architect and will attend Walla Walla Community College in the fall, and later plans to pursue his degree at WSU. Hillary’s choice for continuing her education is Pacific Lutheran University where she will study to become a registered nurse and hopes eventually to become a nurse practitioner.     OLYMPIA – June 24, 2013 – Washington marine law enforcement agencies will participate in a national special emphasis campaign June 28, 29 and 30, to cite people who are operating boats while under the influence of alcohol – also known as BUI. The campaign, called Operation Dry Water, is a coordinated effort to heighten enforcement and awareness.     Grand Coulee Police 6/18 - An Electric City woman told police that someone called and wanted her phone number and Social Security number. She refused to provide the numbers and in turn told police of the incident. A scam of some kind was suspected. - A woman on Palmer Avenue in Electric City told police that a neighbor’s dog came at them snarling and barking and prevented her from getting into her house.
