Preserving fresh fruits and vegetables is important because it decreases waste and allows you to eat a variety of fruits and vegetables year round. As part of the ‘R-Fit Nation’ program and food preservation education, WSU Colville Reservation Extension is offering canning classes during the months of June and July. In last weeks C’est La Vie column, I reported on the great bargain hunting opportunities at a couple of antique sales, both featuring unique items, retro household stuff and some honest-to-goodness antiques and collectibles, some more than 40 years old. Electric City is trying to help its residents out by providing some tips for them. Grand Coulees six-year street plan was derailed last Tuesday night when Fire Chief Richard Paris took issue with it. The council sent the plan back to committee to digest what Paris had to say. Paris asked the council why the six-year plan focused on streets south of SR 155 (Midway) but nothing was targeted on the north side of the highway. Paris noted that the council members all lived on the south side. Paris lives on the north side. He proposed that the council include the street approaching the hospital in the plan. Grand Coulee 7-12 - A resident of Diamond Street in Electric City was advised that noise from his residence was too loud and was told to tone it down. - The bartender of the Electric City Bar and Grille was advised to turn the establishments music down and that if police had another complaint he would be cited. 7/13 - Police advised a man sleeping in his vehicle that he was on private property and would have to move. It's difficult to grasp the size of the fires burning in Washington when some says they've burned 168,000 acres. But most of us are familiar with our area on maps. Here's a map of the area, with red dots representing the burn area and arrows giving wind direction. The fires at Brewster and Pateros are more than 40 miles away.
