My goodness, August really brought the rain. SO, how much rain you ask? What we received exceeded all of the past six years for August. Our combined past six years for August brought a total of 1.29 inches. Now, let’s compare the totals for August 2014 – my home weather station received 1.55 inches, and the Grand Coulee Dam weather site got 1.76 inches. The mean for August is 0.41 inches, with an all-time 1.75 inches in 1941. Do you see a new record? I certainly did, and the National Wea...

Students in the local area have had opportunities to sharpen their skills in preparation for the GED exams, improve workplace skills, and prepare for college; and that’s still true. Now, however, adults who lack a high school diploma have a new way to get a second chance. It’s called “High School 21+,” a competency-based high school diploma offered at Washington’s community and technical colleges. Adults 21 years old and older can combine Big Bend Basic Skills courses with a variety of prior experiences to earn a high school diploma. An instruc...
Lady Raider Volleyball travelled to Davenport Sept. 6, for the season opening tourney. Only 13 Lady Raiders (seven varsity, six JV) were practice eligible to partake in the tournament. The Ladies also lost to Bridgeport in a three-game set to round out the day. “This is always a challenging tournament as we face teams who had very successful volleyball p...

The public is in for some surprises when they tour the new school complex in Coulee Dam this Friday: - Polished concrete floors sparkle and give off a sense of expensive treatment. Workers have ground square borders in areas to resemble tiles. - Rooms in the elementary wing have colored canopies over the doors, which match colors inside the room, so younger students can find their classrooms. - Outside each classroom, a small panel gives the teacher’s name and where they went to college. - Every classroom has a great view of the o...
