Frederick "Earl" DeCamp passed away Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, one month shy of his 96th birthday. Earl was born November 28, 1917, on the DeCamp homestead eight miles north of Nespelem, Wash., to Earl DeCamp and Florence Knowles DeCamp. He graduated from Nespelem High School in 1935, joined a union and began working on Grand Coulee Dam. Cynthia “Cindy” Marie Fry-Ocampo, 67, Inchelium, Wash., passed away at Mt. Carmel Hospital, Colville, on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013. She had complications from rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. She was born on June 30, 1946, to Frances and James C. Fry at Nespelem, Wash . Her parents pre-deceased her. She was a member of the Colville Confederated Tribes. Bob Hinke works at readying his home to provide thrills for trick or treaters on Halloween. Hinke's house at 810 Holly Street won't be the lone spectacular spook house next Thursday. No Noon Chamber Meeting The Grand Coulee Dam Area Chamber of Commerce will not hold its noon meeting this week because of the After Hours event/ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday night from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Starkey Professional building, 17 Midway Ave., Grand Coulee. CMC Guild The Coulee Medical Center Guild (auxiliary) will hold regular meetings on the third Tuesday of each month. The next scheduled meeting and lunch is November 19 at noon at CMC. Seaman Apprentice Timothy Wayne Loch graduated from Navy Basic Training at RTC Great Lakes, Il., on Friday, Oct. 11, 2013. He is currently attending Master at Arms, a school at Lackland AFB, Texas, and scheduled to graduate on December 7, 2013. Grand Coulee Police 10/12 - A woman on Weil Place told police that some kind of oil was poured on her doorstep. She said that there were foot prints leading from next door to her door. Police took note of the type of shoe imprinted in the oil. The woman said she saw a known party in the vicinity and police looked for the man and when they found him he had on shoes similar to those imprinted in the oil. Raider cross country performed like a state contender at the Oroville Invite last Saturday, with all runners posting good times. Raider Head Coach Gary Darnold was pleased, not only by his squad's performance, but also because "for the first time this season, all varsity boys' and girls' runners were back in action," he said. The Raiders dropped their third game in a row last Friday when they lost to the Oroville Hornets 42-14. The loss dropped Lake Roosevelt’s win-loss record to 0-3 in league and 3-4 overall. The Raiders are now tied with Bridgeport for last place in the Central Washington 2B League. The game started slow until Oroville scored its first touchdown with 4:25 left in the first quarter. The Lady Raiders dropped all three of their volleyball matches last week, with the last two decided in three games. At home Oct. 15, the Lady Raiders came out flat against Oroville and flew behind. In the second game, LR showed some spark and tied up the match at one all. Then the momentum swung back to the Hornets in the third game. Down two games to one the Lady Raiders played the Hornets tough in the fourth game where it went tit for tat. In the end, the Hornets had the staying power to claim the victory three games to one. Enrollment in college-level math classes has set records this fall at Big Bend Community College. College officials say enrollment in those classes has doubled since 2009, and increased 25 percent from fall of 2012 to fall of 2013. The numbers are significant because approximately 95 percent of new students at community colleges need developmental math before enrolling in college-level math. “It is unprecedented for a small rural college like BBCC to have full calculus classes in the fall,” said BBCC President Terry Leas. POWER members Jim Depew, left, and Doug Patrick guide a stream of 50,000 fingerling rainbow trout into net pens Tuesday on Banks Lake at Electric City. Delivered by the Washington State Fish & Wildlife Department, the trout came from the Columbia Basin Hatchery in Moses Lake. The fish were from 4-5 inches long, and at their release date in March will be about 10 inches. The group will receive another 100,000 rainbows today (Wednesday).
