  • Museum group looking for members

    The Coulee Pioneer Museum is looking for members that want to preserve the history and heritage of the Grand Coulee Dam Area. The museum is moving forward with plans to gather information, photos, personal histories, and much, much more about the area. The name is “Coulee Pioneer Museum”. We have a tax number, logo, a slate of officers and an address. With memberships and donations, we will open a bank account soon.     The Trees of Sharing trees, decorated with ‘wish’ ornaments for more than 150 local children, are all around town. Trees are located in Grand Coulee at Coulee Hardware, Safeway Pharmacy, and North Cascades National Bank, and at the Coulee Dam Federal Credit Union, Bank of America and Harvest Foods in Coulee Dam.   • School board hears progress on new school

    The Grand Coulee Dam School District board got a lesson in color combinations as architect Cameron Golightly, from Design West, reviewed the color schemes of the new K-12 school Monday night. He explained that the K-6 wing would be a bit more colorful than the 7-12 wing which will have more “grown up” colors. Golightly reviewed color schemes for flooring, wall coverings and countertops during his presentation.     Hires, etc. The Grand Coulee Dam School District board accepted one resignation, approved a leave and stipend and made seven hires Monday night. Kyle Desautel’s resignation as head boys basketball coach was accepted and the board hired Jeff Brisbois to take his place. Michael Rounds, a Middle School Title VII paraprofessional, was given a requested leave.     Friends of Rachel Club members will share with the community a message against bullying at a family event Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. at The Village Cinema. Club members will discuss their projects and the impact Rachel’s Challenge is having on the community. The presentations will be followed by a movie shown for attendees of the family event.     Eight students joined the Lake Roosevelt High School chapter of the National Honor Society in a ceremony Oct. 29. Inducted were Shay Duclos, Zachary Erickson-King, Andrew McCure, Katelynn Schilling, Hayley Seylor, Jazmyne Sumner, Cassidy Trapani and Coltin Williams.   • Robotics team to head to Ellensburg

    Lake Roosevelt High School is sending its robotics team to two competitions in December. The six-student team is made up of Tim Loch, Jordan Charles, Corbin Wilder, Joshua Wilder, Devan Black and Brady Black and coached by Jeremiah Seekins. The school board gave its approval for the trips Monday night, learning that the cost associated with the travel was being borne by a grant from the 21st Century group.   • Traffic safety documentary filmed on Colville Reservation wins award

    A documentary video, about a concerted cross-reservation effort to reduce traffic deaths from a high of about one every other week to two last year, has won an award. “Traffic Safety Successes on the Colville Reservation”, produced by the Washington Traffic Safety Commission, received recognition from filmmakers earlier this month.   • Terry Lee Sharr

    Terry Lee Sharr, 57, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, after a short stay in the hospital. Born on March 6, 1955, to Harry and Joan Sharr, he was the eighth of 12 children. Terry never married and didn’t have any children, but was loved very much by all who knew him. He was born in Springfield, Ore., and grew up in Grand Coulee having graduated from high school there in 1973.
