Against the Fillies, the Lady Raiders were out of sync and the Fillies played hard, aggressive volleyball in a match sweep of the Lady Raiders. Ten Years Ago As part of the 21st Century, coordinator Earl Antone organized a open gym and movie night for the residents of Nespelem. Antone targeted struggling youth in the area specifically looking for the area’s drop outs. Antone had worked for Nespelem School before taking his assignment. Lions to offer eye screening The Lions Club will offer a free eye screening exam Oct. 2 at the senior center in Grand Coulee from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The screening is open to all Grand Coulee Dam area residents. Marjorie McClain, 91, of Federal Way,Wash., passed away on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013. She was born to Harry & Hannah Smith in Tillamook Ore. Ten Years Ago Armed with only garden hoses, several Coulee Dam residents helped prevent a fire from destroying two Coulee Dam homes last Friday. Coulee Dam Mayor Quincy Snow said strong winds knocked a poplar tree over on Yucca Street. The Coulee Cruizers will strut their stuff this weekend at North Dam Park. It will be the 29th annual showing of the Best Rod Run by a Dam Site, always a favorite of local people who enjoy the work individual members of the Cruizers put into their cars. Evelyn Doris Skorheim of Coulee Dam died of natural causes on May 3, 2013. She was 90 years old. Doris was born in Norton, North Dakota, on June 18, 1922. She was raised on the family farm and after high school, went to nursing school in St. Paul, Minn. She married Kenneth H. Skorheim and they settled in Coulee Dam in 1947. The Lady Raider softball team pulled off a big upset at the District 5-6 tournament last weekend when they beat Bridgeport to move on to the state tournament in Yakima this weekend.
