Coulee Dam’s town council passed new rates and a budget this month that included utility rates increases following a series of budget workshops the council worked on in November and December. Pacific Aquaculture, which operates the fish-raising farm in Lake Rufus Woods under contract with the Colville Tribes, each year spends $10,000 worth of turkeys to distribute through the tribal food bank operation, usually at Thanksgiving. More recycling will be available locally at the beginning of 2020, but there are steps for recyclers to take to do it right. A new receptacle will be placed outside the gates of the Delano Regional Transfer Station and will accept mixed paper, #1 and #2 plastics, tin cans, and aluminum cans. Some $5 million in grant money will go towards building more affordable housing at the Colville Indian Agency in the Nespelem area next year. Police officers responding to a reported car crash in Coulee Dam Sunday morning found no sign of a driver, except for a blood trail. The Washington State Patrol (WSP) says a WSP-associated phone number is being “spoofed,” used by someone who leaves voicemail bomb threats with instructions to go to a suspicious website in an apparent scam attempt. The caller leaves a voicemail claiming to have placed explosive devices in several areas around the target they want to scare into visiting the website.
