    Voter registration forms are available at local city halls for those just turning 18, and a school levy committee is encouraging them to do that by Jan. 12, so they are eligible to vote during the levy election set for Feb. 12.     Electric City Councilmember Brad Parrish caught this monster king salmon in the Columbia River near Richland. His grandson, Isaiah Parrish from Spokane, is holding it for the picture. The only scales available topped out at 40 pounds. The scale quickly dropped to the peg, so Brad says it must have weighed over 40 pounds.     The United States Air Force held a retirement ceremony for Major Kevin M. Billups on Sept. 6, at Tyndall AFB Florida to honor his 23-plus years of honorable and distinguished service.     Geraldine Booth became the bride of Don McClure on September 4, 1949, at the Methodist Church in Nespelem. They have ranched on the McClure ranch near Nespelem. Part of the ranch was homesteaded by Don's grandfather William McClure and Don's father Robert McClure, in 1918. The McClures have five children: Sandy Everett of Colorado; Gail Runkel of Missoula; Myrna Crawford of Helena; and Gary and Davy both of Nespelem.... Full story

    1 Years Ago Over 1900 acres outside of Elmer City has burned and hundreds of firefighters from the area and surrounding communities have combined in the effort to stop it. Many citizens had to be evacuated but no homes were lost. The official cause of the fire is “human caused.” Coulee Dam officials opened up the town’s new filtration plant to a tour, after a brief ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday morning.     Army Spc. Jacob Leadingham has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.     Sommer Hicks was named Coulee Medical Center's employee of the year. Hicks, an executive assistant to Administration & Patient Care Services, has been with CMC since 2004. She was presented the award at CMC's Employee Appreciation Dinner May 21 by her daughter, Mariah. Hicks is known around CMC for "always having a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone," the hospital's employee newsletter stated.     Charles Bond is returning from his mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Lisbon, Portugal mission on April 15. Charles, the son of Helen and Bob Bond of Coulee Dam, is a graduate from Lake Roosevelt High school. Donaghey received his bachelor's degree from the University of Arkansas and his doctorate from the Ohio State University.     Felix and Elizabeth "Liz" Marcolin celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with a 10-day trip to Germany in December with their daughters Kathy and Kerin, Kerin's husband Steffen, and their three children. Much of their visit centered around the home of Steffen's parents, Horst and Anneliese Ludwig, in Saint Julian, Rheinland-Pfalz.
