Kindergarten students are benefiting from having another teacher with the addition of Ashley Manderscheid. The Lake Roosevelt Knowledge Bowl Team traveled to Wenatchee Feb. 28 to compete in the 2022 regional match where they didn’t qualify for the state round, but showed promise. Transportation Director Tim Rasmussen said during the Feb. 28 school board meeting that if anyone 21 or over is interested in being a bus driver, the school will pay for them to train. Lake Roosevelt Athletic Director Tim Rasmussen was named the North Central Washington 2B League Athletic Director of the year by his fellow ADs in the league. If a Lake Roosevelt graduate is a junior or older in college working towards an initial certificate in education, they qualify for a $1,500 scholarship. The Okanogan County School Retirees’ Association offers the scholarship to those who graduated from high school in Okanogan County, where LR is located, and who plan to work in public schools. With nine schools competing, the team managed to keep a fifth-place ranking for two rounds, but dropped to eighth place after an incredibly tough set of questions in the final round, reported advisor and language arts teacher Pam Johnson. Grand Coulee PTA will be hosting our 2nd Trunk or Treat event, Thursday, October 28th from 5-7pm. Services, businesses and community will be passing out treats to kids in cars as they drive around the school on the bus loading route. No walkers please. Ten teachers in the Columbia Basin received $150 classroom grants as part of STCU’s efforts to welcome educators back to school, including two at Lake Roosevelt Schools. Nespelem School students will go to work like many of their parents do — four days a week — after the school board voted Monday night to approve the new schedule that ends the week on Thursday instead of Friday. A 2021-2022 school budget of $14.6 million in expenditures was approved on Monday. The Grand Coulee Dam School District Board of Directors approved the budget in their regular meeting following a public hearing in which there was no public input.
