    The Raiders baseball team suffered a couple of close losses at the hands of the Manson Trojans last week, but defeated Bridgeport twice in a doubleheader to close the season. A doubleheader in Coulee Dam May 2 saw the Raiders lose 8-6 and 3-0 to the Trojans. Hunter Whitelaw, pitching for the Raiders, struck out 11 Trojans in the six innings of the first game.     The Raider track and field team competed in Bridgeport and Royal City last week, where several Raiders placed or set personal records. “The Raiders are finishing a tough series of two-meet weeks,” Head Coach Lori Adkins said. “Although it was a hard three weeks, we came out with improved marks which seed us nicely into qualifiers.” Adkins noted a standout performance at the April 30 Bridgeport meet by Steven Flowers, who placed first in the 100-meter race (11.77 seconds) as well as placing first in the shot-put event (49 feet, 1.5 inches)...

    Raider tennis players are competing in the league tournament in Omak following matches in Chelan and Creston. In Chelan April 30, the Raider girls lost 5-0, and the Raider boys lost 4-1. “We were pretty much dominated by the best team we’ve faced this year, Chelan,” Raider Head Coach Steve Archer said. “The one huge, big, bright spot was at boys’ first doubles.     The Lady Raiders defeated the Lady Shockers in a tight game on April 23, winning 6-3. "Emma Marchand brought home the win on the mound," Head Coach Jaci Gross said about the freshman who struck out 10 batters, walked two, and allowed just four hits. "The win was dedicated to Terry Warnecke, LR's pitching coach, who is battling illness at Sacred Heart," Gross added. Warneke is also the grandfather of Marchand.     The Raiders track and field team last week competed at Peshastin, placing well, and in Wenatchee, where high winds canceled some events and blew others off course.     Hannah Wapato placed first in both the 1,600- and 3,200-meter races in a Davenport track meet April 16, and Steven Flowers took first in the shot put at Quincy on Saturday.     The Lady Raiders are at the top of their league following three more softball wins last week. In Pateros April 16, the Lady Raiders won 14-0 as Emma Marchand pitched 10 strikeouts for LR while only allowing one hit. “The pitching was the difference in this game,” said Head Coach Jaci Gross. “Also, the girls had 10 hits and Pateros had one.” Marchand was effective on offense as well, hitting three triples and batting in six runs.     The Raiders dominated Pateros on the diamond at Lake Roosevelt last week, but lost closer games in Tonasket. Lake Roosevelt defeated Pateros 19-1 April 16, sometimes going through their full batting lineup in a single inning.
