Ten Years Ago

Representative from a nationwide company last week pitched the idea of turning the local landfill into a transfer station, but the four regional mayors who control it may not be interested.

Final results of an Electric City pump test have shown that, from a supply viewpoint, Electric City residents wouldn’t come up short if they sold groundwater to Grand Coulee. With the pump test’s conclusion and collection of data, the process of decision making regarding a sharing of the aquifer between Grand Coulee and Electric City began last night.

Dan and Joan Guptill of Electric City are proud to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their son David to Stephanie Sears, daughter of Debra and Michael Deline and George Sears, all of Gig Harbor, Wash.

Jane Westervelt from Moscow, Idaho and about 14 other birders gathered in the Grand Coulee Saturday to view a hoary redpole, a rare bird south of the Canadian border. Some in the group had traveled from California looking for snowy owls.

Congratulations to Allison the first baby of 2002 to parents Milston and Sophie Nomee of Elmer City.

Twenty Years Ago

Ray Duclos and Beverly Smick were installed last Saturday as President and President-Elect, respectively of the area Chamber of Commerce. Community Achiever of the Year was Warner Bartleson and Business Person of the Year was David Schmidt.

A former Coulee Dam police officer will appeal a civil service commission decision to uphold his October firing. Cameron “Skip” Allstot is asking a superior court to overturn the decision rendered by the Coulee Dam Civil Service Commission Dec. 12.

Thirty Years Ago

The Lake Roosevelt High School basketball team will host a southern Australian team Sunday at the LRHS gym.

The first baby of the year at Coulee Community Hospital was born Jan. 6 to Tammy Odlin. Cameron Dale weighed in at 8 pounds, 6 ounces. He was delivered by Dr. Chu.

Forty Years Ago

Cpl. Roland Minter, son of R.S. Minter Sr. of Snohomish, and Mrs. Fran Minter of Elmer City has arrived home Wednesday after completing his tour of duty with the Marines in Vietnam.

Fifty Years Ago

Newly elected line officers for the Grand Coulee Dam Assembly 81 Order of Rainbow Girls are Bonnie Stallman, Worthy Advisor; Willa Swartz, Worthy Associate Advisor; Denise Perkins, Charity; Linda Thurston, Hope; Glenda Turner, Faith; Roma Sumner, Secretary and Judy Hammer, Treasurer.

Sixty Years Ago

This Sunday the Rev. Theodore Siek will preach his final sermon in Grand Coulee.

A new garage will hold open house in Grand Coulee Saturday when Grand Coulee Motors Inc. invites people of the area to come in and get acquainted. The firm is located on Grand Coulee Highway two blocks west of Safeway.

The Stomp and Chomp old time dance club had a New Year’s party Monday night at the schoolhouse in Elmer City.
