Electric City’s council accepted Coulee Playland’s proposal of rates at its meeting Jan. 24.

Electric City leases the park area from the Bureau of Reclamation and then sublets to Hal Rauch who manages the of resort.

Increases of $2 were made in camping charges and $3 in boat launching.

Councilmember Birdie Hensley asked if Rauch would still going to allow Electric City residents half price for boat launching, and he said he will.

Earth Day to be celebrated

Electric City will celebrate Earth Day on April 28.

Its council voted $1,000 from the city’s hotel/motel tax monies for a day centered around kid’s events and recycling.

Sponsors stated that there will be sidewalk chalk drawing, fire engines, and a number of other events. Last year’s was the city’s first celebration of Earth Week.

Zip given to agency

Grant County Emergency Management got zip from Electric City Council last Tuesday night. The organization had sent a letter to the city asking for support. The council decided to give the group exactly what they did last year, which was nothing, over the objection of Councilmember John Nordine, who was the only positive vote on the council.

Coulee Dam

The town of Coulee Dam decided last Wednesday night not to help fund the Senior Meals on Wheels program. Councilmember Ken Miles said if people who live in Coulee Dam wish to give to the program, they could. But, he stated, he didn’t think the town government should give the people’s money away for a program that could be supported by those who were interested in giving. The other council members agreed.

An Okanogan County Paths and Trails Committee has drawn up a draft recreation plan that “evaluates existing recreation opportunities, reviews public opinion regarding parks and recreation, and proposes a six-year action plan, and other related items that the county wishes to pursue,” a press release states. The draft Recreation Plan, which doesn’t list parks or trails in the Nespelem-to-Coulee Dam area, is available for review at http://www.okanogancounty.org/planning.
