“Grandma Alyce” R. Williams, 86, born in Plains Center, S.D., on February 2, 1926, to Eugene and Julia (Busch) Highrock, passed away surrounded by her family in Spokane, Wash. ,on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012. Grandma Alyce was proud of her heritage as a member of the Yankton Sioux Nation, sharing her ancestors’ songs and dances with her children. Her greatest love was spending time with family, not just her own, but the many-many others whom she welcomed with open arms and who also called her “Grandma”. Next to family gatherings, Alyce l-o-v-e-d BINGO, enjoyed doing beautiful cross-stitch, sewing, crossword puzzles, find-a-word puzzles, being in the out-of-doors taking care of her flowers – especially tulips, and camping but, would not leave the house until she had finished watching “The Young and the Restless”.
Preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Williams, Alyce’s legacy lives on through her daughters: LuAnne Hulett (and Harold Crate) of Keller, Mary Highrock of Lakewood, Wash., and Caroll Olinger (and Richard) of Sioux Falls, S.D.; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces and her four-legged babies: Zeke, Moppett and Baby Girl.
Alyce’s family also wishes to recognize all of her friends in Keller and her “Bingo Buddies” and thank them for bringing so much joy to Alyce’s life.
A visitation was held from 3-5 p.m., on Friday Feb. 10, 2012, at Strate Funeral Home in Grand Coulee. A celebration of Grandma Alyce’s life was held at 10 a.m., on Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Keller Community Center in Keller, with burial at San Poil Indian Cemetery. Strate Funeral Home of Grand Coulee, is honored to be assisting Alyce’s family.
