Raiders finish unbeaten in league play

Made district winner bracket Monday

The Raiders finished last week hot on a 13-game winning streak, finishing 12-0 in Central Washington North play.

The week started at Oroville on Tuesday with a 74-53 win.

Finding themselves down 38-21 at the half, the Hornets attempted a fourth-quarter comeback, tying the Raiders with 17 points for the quarter.

But it was too little, too late to beat the Raiders, who shot 55 percent from the field.

LR moved on to the Senior Night finale against Bridgeport Thursday at Gailord Nelson Gym and breezed to an 87-24 victory over the Mustangs.

Ty Egbert was out for the start of the game, allowing senior Dalton Boutain the honors to jump for the opening tip off.

Tyler Garvin started the scoring with a steal and lay-in, after which the game settled into a back and forth, with the Raiders getting several steals.

The game at the end of the first quarter, though, was handily in the Raiders’ pockets with the score LR 22, Bridgeport 9.

Keith Rosenbaum and Lee Williams hit for three straight three pointers in the second period as the Raiders pushed the lead out to 30 at halftime, LR 46-Bridgeport 16.

As the Raiders continued to pour it in third quarter, Boutain received a standing ovation for fighting hard with the defense and sinking a hard-won basket.

With the score 71-22 at the start of the fourth, LR’s seniors began enjoying themselves, trying new shots and high-flying action moves in another cruise control fourth quarter.

Williams led the Raiders in scoring with 20 points.

The Raiders headed into District 6 competition Monday as the number-one seed and were “excited to begin post-season play,” Head Coach Brad Wilson said. “We are focusing on winning the next game on our schedule and nothing beyond that.”

LR soundly stomped Kittitas (5-7, 7-10) in the opening round at Wenatchee High School, 73-36.

They are scheduled to face Oroville there at 5:30 p.m. tonight.

If they gain another win against the Hornets, they will play either Brewster or White Swan for the district title on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Eastmont High School in East Wenatchee.
