News, views and advertising of the Grand Coulee Dam Area
The Grand Coulee Dam School District has entered into an agreement to provide facilities and coaches for junior high and high school track and tennis with Almira-Coulee-Hartline schools.
The board made the decision at its February meeting.
The ACH schools made the inquiry because they don’t have track or tennis facilities.
The agreement would allow parents of students turning out for those sports to transport them to this area, be coached by GCDSD coaches, and then be transported to meets where they would compete under their own school name.
The district here would be reimbursed on a pro-rated basis for the coaching and transportation to competition.
The GCDSD coaches would coach the ACH athletes during competition.
The board mulled this arrangement over and decided to move forward with it.
In another sports related issue, the board voted “no.”
It had been proposed that when there weren’t enough athletes turning out for a sport at Lake Roosevelt High School, eighth graders be allowed to compete.
The board thought this was a bad idea. The issue came up when there weren’t enough athletes turning out for the girls’ softball team.
The coaches of sports that are having trouble with turnouts need to do a better job of recruiting at the high school, one board member suggested.
