Raider golf still on for the 2012 season

With the recent closure of the Banks Lake golf club, many members of the community questioned whether Lake Roosevelt High School would have a golf team this spring.

Luckily, Head Coach Steve Files was able to work a deal for the Raider golf team will still have access to the golf course for this season.

“Of course, we are facing some uncertainty with regards to the status of Banks Lake Golf Course, but are pressing forward with our preparations for a great season of Raider Golf,” Files said.

The golf program has two returners from 2011 — senior Drew Desatuel and junior Tanecia Stanczak. Desatuel qualified for state in 2011 and competed on the first day. Stanczak was an alternate.

“We have high hopes that those two will once again challenge for a bid to state,” Files said.

The coach also sees promising newcomers for the 2012 season in two seniors (Cecelia Abrahamson and Trevor Toler), one sophmore (Brandon Desautel), and one freshman (Austin Rosenbaum).

The golf team will have a shorter season this year, competing in eight tournaments rather than the 10 they competed in during the 2011 season. This means that the golfers will have to use the competion time wisely and be more productive in practice if they are to challenge for the District 6 2B/1B title.

The Raiders begin the season at Manson on March 22 in a 2:30 p.m. match against Manson and Warden.
