Dennis Lee Wiggins

Dennis Lee Wiggins, 69, passed away Monday, Apr. 30, 2012, at Coulee Medical Center in Grand Coulee. Born in Los Angeles, Calif., on December 8, 1942, to Harry J. and Geneva A. Wiggins, Dennis proudly served with the United States Coast Guard from 1964 to 1970. Serving aboard the 82-foot seagoing buoy tender USCGC Balsam (WLB-62) and based in Adak, Alaska, Dennis was an E-6 Boatswain’s mate before receiving his honorable discharge.  Following his time with the Coast Guard, Dennis worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad until 1990 when he was disabled from an on-the-job accident.

An active member of the American Legion and the Eagles Club for several years, Dennis loved turning metal and working with wood making beautifully intricate detailed projects. He also enjoyed good music from his huge collection of recordings, playing pinochle, gardening, collecting eagles, fishing, interacting online with his many internet friends on “pogo” and “bingo” and being among friends sharing a good joke and just relaxing.

Predeceased by both of his parents and his only brother Terry Wiggins; Dennis is survived by his long time partner Penny Yates; his children: Tammy, Lee, Kelly, Daniel and Rachel; numerous grandchildren and his sister-in-law Cathy Wiggins.

A 1:30 p.m. celebration of life will be held for Dennis on Saturday, May 12, at 206 Lincoln Avenue, Electric City. His loved ones request that gifts be made in Dennis’ memory to either the United States Coast Guard Retirement Fund or the Railroad Retirement Fund or a heart fund.

An on-line register book has been set up for Dennis’ friends and family at http://www.stratefuneralhome.com. Strate Funeral Home of Grand Coulee is honored to be serving Dennis’ family.
