The Lady Raiders ended their losing streak this week, beating Oroville in a burst of offense.
In the first game on Friday it took the Lady Raiders all of three innings to dispatch the Hornets. Ciara Nault hit an out-of-the park home run for the first time this season.
Raelynn Dennis pitched all three innings giving up only six runs.
Hailey Chaney was behind the plate as catcher for the first time, where she performed excellently.
Head Coach Tristan Daniels stated that the Lady Raiders performed very well in the blowout with the final score being 26-6.
In the second game, the Hornets played far more aggressively, taking a six-run lead into the seventh.
The Lady Raiders did not fold and instead staged a rally, scoring runs, then setting up Meagan Drywater at the plate with the bases loaded. Drywater smacked the ball into the outfield for an inside-the-park grand slam to win the game for the Lady Raiders 25-24.
Nault also had an inside-the-park homerun earlier in the game, and Danielle Laramie swatted one over the fence.
“Orville played with a lot of heart,” Daniels noted. “They only had nine players show up, and in the second game one of their girls dislocated her hip, but they played hard with just eight on the field.”
The Lady Raiders played the last game of the season last night in Waterville in a makeup game against the Shockers who trounced the Lady Raiders in their earlier doubleheader. Districts is still up in the air. The team may not know until Thursday whether the Lady Raiders will be involved.
