Stanczak finishes 27th in State golf tourney

Tanecia Stanczak shot a 116 in the first round of play at the 1B-2B state girls golf tournament at the Oakbrook Golf and Country Club in Lakewood last Tuesday.

Her score put her three over the cut to move on to the second round.

Head Coach Steve Files said rain Tuesday made playing out of many bunkers and thick rough very difficult.

Stanczak pushed through the elements, but some bad luck on a hole and the very high level of the competition made it more difficult to advance.

“Tanecia hung tough and handled the pressure well in her first crack at playing the very best in the state of Washington,” Files said. “She suffered a couple of bad breaks during the round, but chipped in off the green on number one to save bogey and was consistently the longest hitter in her group.”

Stanczak is a junior and can return next year to challenge for a state place.

Golf at the B level looks to remain as it is next year, with the classification cycle not altering the golf- playing schools as much as in other sports.

“I think it was a great experience for Tanecia and her chances for getting back to state next year and making the second day are very good,” Files said. “I was extremely proud of the way she stayed positive and competed to the very end.”
