Fence bid awarded

Electric City Council awarded a bid to put an apron and fence around an area at the new arsenic treatment plant to Nick’s Home Repair. The successful bid was for $14,269.78. Four firms bid on the job with the next lowest bid of $14,504.20 made by Jackson Construction.

Get rid

of hazards

This Friday you can get rid of your household hazardous materials at the Delano Regional Transfer Station. The pickup will be from noon to 4 p.m., Friday, Sept. 7. The wastes being collected include oil-based paints, stains, thinners, batteries, solvents, antifreeze, brake fluid, cleaning products, spot removers, insecticides, weed killers, fluorescent tubes, swimming pool and hobby chemicals.

The event is sponsored by Grant County Solid Waste, Washington State Department of Ecology, Regional Board of Mayors and the Grand Coulee Dam Rotary Club.

Blues fest

The Sunbanks Lake Resort Blues Festival will be held Sept. 6-9, at the resort stage on Banks Lake.

Sunbanks has won the “Best Blues Festival” award five times and is featuring this year such groups as DK Stewart Sextet, The Stone Foxes, The Fat Tones, Ben Rice Band, Boneyard Preachers, Bobby Holland and the Breadline, Junkyard Jane with Sue Orfield and the Rhythm Tramps, to name a few.

School drive successful

A drive for school supplies for needy children was completed Friday at North Cascades National Bank (NCNB) and was highly successful, officials stated. The annual drive produced backpacks, pencils and all supplies listed by the school district that students will need for the school year.

The items went to Grand Coulee Dam School District Schools.
