Waters, DeWinkler make all-league teams

Five Raider football players have been recognized this week by league coaches, and two were chosen for both offense and defense. The coaches of the Central Washington 2B League got together last week to name the outstanding players of the season who deserve to be recognized with “all league” honors. The coaches selected seniors Sean Waters and Justus DeWinkler for both the all-league second-team offense and defense. Waters overcame an injury and a position change on offense to earn the honor on offense; and played hard on defense, providing inside pressure from his end spot. DeWinkler had a great season, running the ball with several 100-yard games. He successfully filled the vacancy made in the backfield created from Nick Gleason’s transfer. On defense, DeWinkler was in on many tackles and helped Waters in providing leadership during the tough times this season. As a Punter DeWinkler improved as the season went on, and booted a 50-plus yard punt in the Bridgeport game to pin the Mustangs inside their own 20. The rest of the Raiders are on the CWL 2B Honorable Mention defense. Drew Saxon made it for defensive line as his play improved over the course of the season to where he was a threat to the quarterback on passing plays and forcing fumbles. Freshman Jesse Louie made it for his play at linebacker, where he was a constant run threat to opposing teams and was in on many tackles every game. Desmond House was selected for the honor for his play as a defensive back. House made solid gains this season with his play-making abilities grabbing interceptions and preventing too many deep passes. Those three will all be returning next season and will look to fill the voids left by Waters, DeWinkler and the rest of the seniors.
