Vigil

cancelled

Two members of an honor guard from American Legion Post 114, among others, showed up for a planned candlelight vigil for the victims of the recent school shooting in Connecticut Wednesday night, but the event at Mason City Park was cancelled due to weather.

Donations made

The school board accepted three $100 donations at its last meeting. Providing the gifts were the United Methodist Church women, who gave $100 each to Center School, Grand Coulee Dam Middle School and Lake Roosevelt High School for dietary snacks. Wilson Construction also made an $80 donation for Center School and the Tee Pee Drive-In made an $82 product donation.

Students get safety training

Students at Center School received special training recently. The second- and fourth-grade students learned about electrical safety, and second-, third- and fourth-grade students learned about how and what to make 911 calls for.

School board might

go

paperless

Superintendent Dennis Carlson received permission from the Grand Coulee Dam School District board to work with a company that provides “paperless” software.

The save-a-tree approach, Carlson said, is being used by an increasing number of school districts and other organizations.

The company, EduPortal, will provide the information on how to access board packets, and other information necessary to go paperless.

Carlson said he would get some financial information on how much it would cost and get back to the board.

Council meeting cancelled

Grand Coulee’s first city council meeting of the new year, which would have been Jan. 1, has been cancelled. The city’s next meeting will be Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 6:30 p.m.
