Raiders extend streak to four

The Raiders’ win streak moved to four with a victory at Oroville last Friday. The four-game win streak has also placed the Raiders atop of the Central Washington 2B North.

The coaches liked the drive the players showed in both games.

Against Liberty Bell on the 15th, the Raiders were able able to learn from their previous mistakes against Liberty Bell at Brewster. The Mountain Lions jumped out early but the Raiders responded quickly with a 8-0 run to take the lead in the first quarter.

Raider rebounding played a key role in the the first half as LR gathered a 23-17 lead.

In the second half, the Raiders had to fight off a Liberty Bell comeback to retain a seven-point lead at the end of the third quarter that the Mountain Lions would claw at all fourth, when they tied the nail biter with only 19 seconds left in the game.

LR regained the lead as Justus DeWinkler hit a free throw after being almost tackled. Liberty Bell managed to get the ball back with only a second left but could not make the shot, giving the ball back to LR who held on to the 42-41 win.

Chance Garvin and Trey Nicholson put in nine apiece to lead Raider scoring.

At Oroville, the Raiders played the last-place Hornets who fought hard and made it a game in the first half, allowing LR only a 23-20 lead.

In the second half, the Raiders posted an offensive surge, even as they held the Hornets’ high point man to only seven points on the night.

The 52-38 LR win put the Raiders in sole possession of first place in the Central Washington North after Manson’s loss to Bridgeport.

Garvin led Raider scoring with 15.

The Raiders also move into second overall in the league behind Riverside Christian of the southern division.

The Raiders were scheduled to face the Mustangs of Bridgeport last night and will take on Manson at home Friday starting at 7:30 p.m.
