Thief hits fuel at golf course

Officials at Banks Lake Golf Course reported that sometime between last Tuesday and Wednesday nights, someone had entered the course’s golf cart shed and made off with over 100 gallons of both diesel and gas fuel.

Orville Scharbach, chairman of the Port District 7 commission that runs the course, said the loss was about $763.

The police report stated that entry to the fuel tank wasn’t forced, so it was likely the door was left unlocked or the thief had the combination to the lock.

It was reported that locks on the tanks were unlocked from keys inside the shed.

The report stated that any vehicle had to access the shed to reach the diesel tank.

It is the second loss at the golf course in recent months.

Several months ago someone entered the golf course office, breaking in the door and taking a safe that reportedly had $2,800 inside. Since that time, the course’s insurance company has repaired the door, replaced the safe and covered $1,800 of the money lost.

Police stated that there had been a number of people in the shed since the loss, so no evidence was found.
