Raider track competes in two meets a week

Raider track travelled to two meets last week on back-to-back days.

The first was at Mansfield on Thursday for the Mansfield Iceberg. This meet was for the B schools as the field consisted entirely of the Central Washington 1B and 2B members. No results had been posted by deadline.

The Raiders traveled on Friday to Peshastin for the John Riekie Memorial Invitational, where stiff competition featured almost all the Caribou Trail League and northern schools of the South Central A league.

The Raider boys finished 14th overall with nine team points. Raider girls finished 13th with 20 team points.

Cheyenne Kelly-Marconi placed in all four events, scoring the bulk of the Raider points for the girls. Kelly-Marconi placed second in the triple jump with a combined distance of 33 feet, 1 inch, and third in the long jump with a 15-foot jump. In her running events Kelly-Marconi placed sixth in the 100-meter hurdles 17.75 seconds, a career personal record, and eighth in the 300 hurdles at 53.50.

Eren Moon was the only other Raider girl to place, taking seventh in the shot with the throw of 28-03.5.

Sean Waters scored most of the boys’ points as he placed in both of his events. In the shot, Waters took fifth with the throw of 38-11. At discus, Waters threw 120-11 putting him fifth in that event.

Octavio Alejandre scored the remaining points for the boys’ squad as he took eighth in the javelin, throwing a career PR of 114-07.

Alexia Hanway ran the 100, 400-, and 800-meter races at Peshastin. In the 100, Hanway finished in 15.36 seconds. In the 400, she ran a 1:13.07and finished 12th in the 800 with the time of 2:54.91, a career PR.

Lukas Hermetz improved his 100-meter time to 13.04 and his career PR in the 1600 by finishing with a 5:12.17. Hermetz also ran his first-ever 300-meter hurdle race, where he finished with a good beginner’s time of 50.29 seconds.

Raider distance runners also showed improvement at the meet.

Mary Ann Matheson ran the 1600 in career-best time of 6:48.85. Paladine Williams ran the 1600 in 6:20.72, a career best by 30 seconds. He finished 13th in his first-ever 3200 in 13:21.83.

Zach Erickson ran it in 13:29.79 for a career PR.

Tyler Agosto and Corban Wilder ran sprints for the Raiders at the meet.

Agosto’s times was 13.64 in the 100. Wilder ran a career PR in the 200 of 28.79 and in the 400 with a 60.74. Josh Wilder joined his cousin Corban in the 400, finishing with the time of 66.76.

In the throwing events, Alejandre threw the shot 36-04 and the discus 90-10. Bryson Goggles-Whalawitsa threw the javelin with Alejandre flinging the implement 78-04. Eren Moon also threw the discus 73-05. Samantha Turner threw both the shot and the discus with throws of 23-05 and 72-10, respectively.

“The Raiders performed well in back-to-back meets, showing competive performances all around and coming home with a few season or career bests,” commented Head Coach Lori Adkins.

The Raiders again have two meets this week — in Bridgeport last night and at Liberty Bell this Friday for the Liberty Bell Invite.

That meet will prominently feature B schools and will start at 3:30 p.m. at Liberty Bell High School outside of Twisp.
