Elizabeth (Betty) Green

Obituary

Elizabeth (Betty) Green, 94, passed away Monday, July 8, 2013. Daughter of August and Mary Bauer, she spent part of childhood in the Colville and Spokane area. When her parents came home to take over the family farm south of Wilbur, Betty attended and graduated from Wilbur High School. She married Irvin Green in 1938 and the couple moved to a cattle ranch 10 miles east of Nespelem, Wash., where they raised registered and commercial cattle for the next 42 years.

Betty was a proud homemaker and an excellent cook. No one ever left Irvin and Betty’s table hungry nor was anyone ever turned away. Betty and Irvin grew a large garden and Betty would preserve the fruit and vegetables for the family. She happily shared her garden produce with others and would also share her knowledge of preserving with others.

Betty was active in many organizations holding offices in the Nespelem Grange, Okanogan County Cowbelles and Nespelem Ladies’ Club. The Green family was very involved in 4-H and Betty taught many a 4-Her how to cook and sew. Later, Betty became a judge for many of the county fairs.

Irvin and Betty retired from cattle ranching in 1980, moving to Wilbur in the winter and spending their summers at Curlew Lake. They both enjoyed playing cards and had many card parties. Betty loved china painting and created many beautiful dishes and cups for her children and grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents August and Mary, her husband Irvin, and brothers Robert and Billie Bauer.

She is survived by her four children: Julie Green of Ellensburg, Mary Campbell of Nespelem, Penny (Ron) Rosenberg of Grand Coulee and Gary (Michelle) Green of Wilbur. Betty had nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services are Friday, July 12 at 11 a.m. in the Wilbur Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are being made by Strate Funeral Home in Wilbur.
