Ten Years Ago

Seeking more safety in the schools and legal protection, the Grand Coulee Dam School District passed a dress code Monday explaining what students can’t wear.

After several years (1988) of no quilt shows in town, the Zion Lutheran Church is presenting a quilt show Sat., Sept. 20. The show along with a pie sale, will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. a the church at 348 Mead in Grand Coulee.

Turnovers proved costly for the Lake Roosevelt boys’ football team as the Wilbur/Creston Wildcats dealt the Raiders a loss in the first game of the season. Twenty Years Ago

The Gehrke Windmills have been revitalized by a handful of volunteers dedicated to preserving the creations of the late folk artist Emil Gehrke.

Bonneville Power Administration says it wants to hear from the public on a plan to build a new transmission line from Spokane to Grand Coulee.

An enrollement decline came as no surprise to GCD School District administration following the first official enrollment count for the 1993-94 school year. The enrollment was down 32.79 full time students from last year.

Thirty Years Ago

Shocking news reached the Grand Coulee Dam area when it learned Senator Henry M. Jackson had passed away.

Richard Skordas, 17, from Coulee Dam, recently placed second in the National Water Ski Slalom Competition in Duquoin, Ill.

The 1983 Lake Roosevelt football team is high in numbers and in spirit. Forty-one students are out this year, 20 of which are freshmen, four sophomores, eight juniors and nine seniors. The seniors included Jim Stanley, Jon Oliver, Scott Kentner and Joe Mueller.

Charles Giese has recently been sworn into office as an Elmer City Councilman to replace Larry Seekins who was recently named mayor.

Mrs. Leo Nielson took her daughter Kim to Pullman Saturday where she was participating in rush activities. She will return on Friday for the upcoming Rainbow installation.

Fifty Years Ago

Officers were elected at Grand Coulee High School. They include Presidents - senior, Ron Pachosa; junior, Gary Sanderson; sophomore, Ron Koslaski and freshman, Danny Klobucher.

Coulee Dam Mayor Ed Cole appointed Charles Morehouse as police judge to finish out the term of Walter Greenwood.

Out at Electric City, Norman McClure of Boston visited at the home of his brother and family.

Sixty Years Ago

The B Street Fire Ladies will meet Monday evening at the home of Irene Lehto. Hostesses will be Irene and Lois Lehto.

A large crowd witnessed an interesting football game Saturday night at Ludolph Field when the Grand Coulee alumni won a closely contested 19-14 decision from the grads of Coulee Dam. Don Ziegler provided the big thrill of the evening. The ex-Tiger grabbled a kickoff and sprinted 60 yards for a touchdown providing the winning margin.
