News, views and advertising of the Grand Coulee Dam Area
Letters to the Editor
Duane Johnson has chosen to oppose Andy Trader in the upcoming Coulee Dam Council election. I support Duane and feel that his experience and education as a manager in the public sector will be a welcome addition. He is articulate, sensitive, and respectful. Duane graduated from Lake Roosevelt High School, went on to get a master’s degree, and adds a cultural perspective to the mix that has been too long missing!
Likewise, I support Gayle Swagerty’s bid to unseat Karl Hjorten. Karl has been at the center of, and instrumental in, shoving the overly expensive Treatment Plant project down our collective throats! Gayle is a “full-time” Coulee Dam resident with a sharp mind, great ideas, and an involving personality. She’s open to a different approach and not afraid of change.
There has never been a run on either the Mayor’s or Council seats … this election is different. This is a rare opportunity to change the balance. To see and know more about your candidates, review their statements in the Okanogan County on-line voter’s Pamphlet. Unfortunately, you will only find that the challengers felt it important to post their positions and history. It seems that the incumbents just didn’t care enough about us to share even their thoughts!
